I do have a concern here though. The press now has reported on gambling related activity. I fear an upcoming "investigative journalism" piece into "an out of control program" or "a coach who let gambling go unnoticed" or some other headline making story in order to bring street creds to an up-and-coming journalist. When the athletic department says they are handling a situation internally, they really are handling it internally. When external forces like the media or prying fans get involved, things generally do not end well.

Folks, let the department take care of this and trust that they will handle it properly. The athletic department will handle the situation properly. If you have concerns, please voice them, but do it privately, not publicly on this forum. The more us fans pry, the more distractions we create, which is why I intend to sit this one out as much as I can.

oh. sort of like how UNC properly handled their dirty laundry internally?

1. Not a smart move by Johnson. Pranks are fun. Pranks that involve police are either a) really fun or b) stupid. Pretty clear this prank falls into the latter category. Not a smart move by a leader. But, he'll learn. The team looks up to him and I don't think that will change.

2. I really don't care if players are gambling but I understand if some people do care. (I'm a Falcon club member too but I have no intention of stopping donations, not by any means.) However, if gambling or any other high-profile activity becomes a distraction from academics and athletics, then we've got a problem and I fully expect Babers and the athletic department to take care of it.

So you are saying let it go. I think not. If you give any money to this University you should not let it go. Gambling by players is a problem- period.

The weird part to me is that, I always thought college athletes could barely afford to buy groceries and to pay utilities. Now, I hear a bunch of them have enough money to drive up to Toledo and go to a casino multiple times a week. Nice.

not seeing your 'satire', but the answers are "NO", "NO", "NO", and "NO".

on the other hand, student-athletes on scholarship are held to higher standards than "if it's not illegal, it's OK."
nothing good can come from athletes gambling in public for thousands of $$$, and it needs to be squashed. want to lose a lot of money in a casino? do it after you graduate, on your own dime.

I just hope that by this coming to light, this nonsense is now in the public eye and whether it be the coaching staff or the administration, someone takes charge and reigns this in. Yes, going to the casino is not illegal, but if it's happening with the frequency as reported, then it suggests that guys are not as focused on their academics and on football as they should be.

All college students have a right to recreational activities, as long as they keep it legal, but just because something may not be illegal doesn't mean it's the right thing to be doing. Student athletes should exercise common sense and when they're not doing so, then that's where the coaches have to have a handle on what's going on, get involved and provide appropriate guidance. Keeping players' behavior in line and doing whatever he can to ensure that they don't provide a source of embarrassment for his school/employer is an implied responsibility of all coaches. Granted, a coach can't be with his guys 24/7 and if they make a stupid, impulsive decision, then that's on them, but this was an ongoing, frequently reoccurring issue that the coaches should have known about and should have had the common sense to step in. I hope there's a course change before players' names being in the paper for the wrong reasons becomes a regular pattern.

How is that even related, regardless of who you are talking about, what job it was, and the truth of the matter? We're talking about football players, in the spotlight, and representatives of BGSU, getting their names further into the spotlight by doing stupid things. I could see the relevance of your question if it was President Mazey that did these things.
