Bg vs Ill. State
Ladies won again tonite by 4pts..... One thing hits you when you look at box score.... I think ALL backups who played today were either redshirt or true freshmen. What a UYOUNG team!

Hope I'm wrong, but from the post game interview, it sounds like the injury to Erica Donovan might be a serious one.

Re: Bg vs Ill. State
I've wondered for several years now WHY the women's team has gone into the season with such a slim roster. It's my understanding that women's BB has ONE more scholarship to give than men.....yet we start the season with 12 bodies....FOUR ladies were unable to play, leaving us with only 8 healthy bodies and I understand at least one of them is hurting too. Seems like we had this problem last year too, which is why we wound up with , I think, 4 redshirt frosh this year.bgbill wrote:BG wins, 61-47.

In the meantime, the men's roster had grown to 15 (now 14 without Orr)..... if some of these ladies ARE seriously hurt, we have a LONG season to play with only 8-9 players.

One thing to note, however, is the men that play on the practice squad for the women are also on scholarship.Class of 61 wrote:I've wondered for several years now WHY the women's team has gone into the season with such a slim roster. FWIW, there are two (not four) redshirt freshmen this year. Here's the roster...
SENIORS---Hoekstra, Matthews
REDSHIRT JUNIOR---Donovan
JUNIOR ---Justinger
SOPHOMORES---Konieczki, Siefker
REDSHIRT FRESHMEN---Bolton, Kirkpatrick
FRESHMEN---Baer, Myers, Puk, Webb
Also... I don't think the men's practice players are on scholarship, & I believe women's basketball gets 15 total scholarships.

Re: Bg vs Ill. State
I was almost positive the practice men get scholarships, and for purposes of Title IX they count as women's scholarships. Now maybe that doesn't subtract from the basketball team allotment, but I was pretty sure they had scholarships.

Agreed, women DO get more schol. Than men ( and thanks for correcting me -guess I was thinking about 4 frosh from last yr. .... And I'd think it'd be doubtful to put practice players on schol., unless the coach has an option to reward them somehow. Oddly enough, I think it was UCONN's women who had only 10 or 11 either last yr or yr before. Guess it didn't bother them much.threestooges wrote:FWIW, there are two (not four) redshirt freshmen this year. Here's the roster...
