2014...good year or no?

Post by Flipper »

We win the East...beat a P5 team and won a bowl for the first time in 10 years

We lost in the MACC...lost to those mother**kers up north...and lost three straight at he end of the year.

I'm going to say a a good year that could have been great...so it maybe feels not so good

Up and down year with a good final chapter. The pieces were in place to be an all timer of a year but not so. Maybe next year if the D can replace all of the front seven seniors.

I would say we had some disappointing performances with some adversity. Making the MACC with a backup quarterback was great. Losing 4 games to the West was disappointing. The defense was beaten badly in several games due to the amount of time on the field. It seemed like it was going to be a great season going in but with the adversity of the season could any coach have done much better? I think the team survived and is in position to have an even better season next year.
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.

Disappointing but not terrible. Injuries didn't help but clearly there is work that needs done.

Average. Considering losing your starting QB and injuries on defense, it could've been a lot worse. There's a lot of room for improvement next season and there's a big task of building back the defense up front.

Good season. Not great, not bad, but with the win tonight - good at minimum for all the reasons stated above.

Most certainly disappointing when compared to pre season expectations. I thought we underachieved most of the season, but we'll see what year 2 brings. Losing you starting qb is never easy unless your OSU, so hopefully getting Matt back will lead to a better 2015.

Honestly, i think things look a lot better when you remove the expectation that the team finish 11-1 and win the MAC again.

We went into this season with the mentality that anything less than 10-2 would be a disappointment. Take that away, and this is what are left with:

-A new coaching staff, with a radically different approach, requiring time to develop
-A long list of injuries
-A season with ups and downs

All to quickly we forgot that Clawsonball never beat a P5 team, rarely beat Toledo, never won a bowl game, and really only ever yielded one win against a respectable conference opponent.

Based on his track record, all we have is a gut feeling that Clawson would have done better this year at BGSU.

Give this time. The sky isn't falling yet.

Didn't match expectations, I think it's hard to tell without your number one qb how they would've done with Coach Clawson. Didn't match high expectations, but overall acceptable based on beating a Big 10 school, winning our division and making and winning a bowl. Hard to complain too much, but losing to TSUN and anyone from the MAC West seems too short of what we should've accomplished.

My best description of the season would be, "Meh." It wasn't good, it wasn't bad. If we lost the bowl game, you better believe almost everybody would have said it was a bad year. Amazing how one win can change things. Then again, it's amazing how one loss can change things as well.

When we lost our team MVP QB for the season the expectations went from 10-2 to HOPING to make the title game, HOPING to make a bowl game, and HOPING to win those games.

This team played its entire season with a backup QB who was very up and down throughout the year. Still they won 8 games, made it to the title game (albeit in a bad MAC east), beat a Big10 team, and won a bowl game. All with a new coaching staff trying to install systems that are a complete 180 from what the previous regime tried to do.

Not going to say this was a great year...it certainly wasn't. I wasn't happy with how they sort of faded down the stretch, rather than improving. That said, I think a lot of that was a QB that didn't grow as much as you would have liked and I think that held back the progress of the entire team. All told, it was a successful start to the BG career for Babers, IMO. If they can grow the team with a year coaching, I like where we're headed for next year.

Many positives and negatives.

Positives:
We won the MAC East or West or whatever side we are on to be honest I don't really care about this.
We beat Indiana
We won a bowl game
Successful season with a backup QB

Negatives:
I have never seen a coach make more boneheaded mistakes in game and player management in my life.
Off field issues: I know people want to say gambling is no big deal but it is a huge deal. 4x a week is an absurd amount. If Andy Dalton was doing this the Bengals would freak out. If I was doing this my boss would have red flags come out. If any of these guys want to get drafted and this comes up it's a red flag no question.
I don't like the hubris. Just win games, don't talk about winning games.
Terrible defense for much of the year.
