BG still the only MAC team with a bowl win...
Marshall ripped NIU 52-23 last night. CMU had a furious rally and lost 49-48 after trailing WKU 49-14. I still cannot believe the Chips scored on that last play.
tsun is the only team left to play...1-4 or 2-3 in bowls this year.

I would have also in that situation. Furious comeback when they looked dead in the water, let it all hang out and go for the win.mcfalcons83 wrote:Would you guyd have gone for two?

Right call.......horrible play choice. Any play fake, slant, or pivot route cannot be stopped at the three.

Unless you've got a Roger Lewis skip the fade.
That play we ran when we went for 2 and the win at Minnesota was much better.

Funny you should mention this. I had just seen the play run when I texted a friend describing that exact play that Freddie Barnes had completed to beat Minny. Motion left to right , cut into EZ, and sharp cut to sideline. Pretty hard for a DB to get between you and ball. Fades don't seem to have a great success rate unless you have a height advantage.Dayons_Den wrote:Unless you've got a Roger Lewis skip the fade.

True true, that comeback and snatch it catch in Detroit was pretty slick. Now if he could just work on that breakaway speed he woulda had 6 in Montgomery too!Indiana4 wrote:Or a fade to #4 will work all day long

The play that won the Minnesota game was great, and the reverse/pitch play that went to Cole Magner in the Northwestern game in 2001 was a pretty darn good play as well.

I really think CMU should have played for OT. Their offense and defense had played flawlessly for the last 12 minutes of the game. Why put the entire game in the hands of the offense for one play? They definitely should have let their defense have a say in OT.

Bad decision.
Re: BG still the only MAC team with a bowl win...
WKU clearly changed the way it played in the fourth quarter. They were giving CMU a ton underneath and started playing the clock. Anyone who watched that entire game could see that was the bigger reason why CMU made the run over CMU all of a sudden playing so well. WKU nearly blew a game big time where they dominated CMU for three quarters and nearly paid dearly for getting away from it in the fourth.MarkL wrote:I really think CMU should have played for OT. I agree 100%, CMU came back against air. But WKU completely lost their mental edge and I don't think they'd have mentally recovered in OT. CMU sure didn't belong in OT based off how the game went until the last 12 but they would have had the edge in OT and were hitting on all cylinders.BGSU33 wrote:WKU clearly changed the way it played in the fourth quarter. I agree, Mark. WKU had "turned off" their intensity and CMU had all the momentum and were on an emotional high. No way I go for 2 there. Kick it and play overtime. I would have liked my chances there a lot better than a 1 play do or die to decide the game. They did all that work to get in that position and I would not have urinated it away with just 1 chance to make a play.
There are times where I would definitely go for 2 at the end, based on different circumstances, but not in this case. Last year when Michigan scored in the last second against The Evil Empire, Hoke went for 2. I thought that was absolutely the right call. He didn't have the atheletes/playmakers to match the opponent and his defense wasn't stopping them in the 4th quarter. I thought his best shot at winning the game was to put it all on that last play. Unfortunately, they telegraphed where the ball was going and the pass had no chance to get thru. A better play call there and they could have won that game.
I agree with others, regarding CMU's play call. If you are going to go for it there, at least run a play with a better chance of success than a corner fade.
