Women's basketball is allowed 15 scholarships. I'm sure the coaching staff has a good reason for using the number of scholarships they do. It might be they are looking at a lot of potential players in the upcoming classes. Maybe some potential recruits said no. All I know is that we have to compete with the players we have. This team has my unconditional support.

I agree. If the right student-athlete isn't available then why would you waste a scholarship.

Might be nice to look at the track team, volleyball team or at any other athletes around campus simply to fill seats on the bench and give some bodies for practice. I'm sure they have started looking around at possibilities. Nice part about men's basketball is you simply hunt down a couple of football players who are always looking for a good workout.

The only time not using all your allotment of scholarships makes sense is when you're a program like Duke and can't afford to have big-ego 5 star recruits sitting the bench for long periods of time. It doesn't make sense for any other program to be 3 (or whatever) short when you're a couple injuries away from having no depth.

I disagree. Why have 15 players when you know you won't be playing that many? The players sitting on the bench could cause some chemistry problems which is a big component of our program. A team can't predict the number of injuries we have had this year. We're going to have to deal with the situation we have right now. I hope we will get at Jazz back for Saturday's game. Abby will play when she is ready. Go BG!!

If I get recruited to a DI program you have an ego. You must have a level of confidence that is beyond humble and expect to be THE go-to player. Eventually you will likely accept your new role but you have been the go-to and expect to be the go-to again. If not. you are probably not successful. BG has successfully recruited the best players that are team players. Rarely do we see chemistry problems. I applaud Coach Roos for her recruiting although I'm sure she wishes she had found a couple more players at this time.

Seems to me that the guys had 15 til Orr left the team. Watching the video hi- lites, the bench was going nuts on every made shot. Cant recall how many women were on roster during the NCAA runs, but sure seemed like more than 12total. And wasn't it only recently that we had a player who came to BG without a schol. Because she wanted to be here. ( finally got the schol. In last 2 yrs. IIRC.)

.........and how did that work out for Coach Orr? I believe the men kept a few extra walk-ons, primarily for practice purposes, as they don't have a "men's" practice team like the women do. Those "extras" on the men's team, also limit the roster for other men's teams, and keep some under NCAA max roster number, to keep the Title IX numbers intact.

I think Denny is talking about Houston's only local TV sports woman in the market - Simone Eli. The Sports Anchor/Reporter at KPRC Local 2 in Houston, Texas.

She spent the better part of her senior year as a member of the walking wounded as well.

Just saw a pic on the BGSU Volleyball Twitter account that appears to show Erica in a WBB practice uniform.

And you are right re: Simone.

As to Orr's son leaving the team, I was pleasantly surprised that he came back to begin with. And I don't get the impression that he was unhappy with P.T., and not sure if anyone outside the program does know.

Not referring to coach, rather his son... I mention more on this in another post.
