BG v Akron

Post by Globetrotter »

Akron is 10-5 and coming off a loss to Toledo on the road. They are 8-1 at home for the year, with their only loss coming to Middle Tennessee by 1. They only have 11 guys on the roster total. MAC Player of the year candidate Demetrius Treadwell was kicked off the team earlier in the year. Cam Black is a GA there.

As someone who watches a lot of Akron ball, they are a tough team. However, they do have some flaws this year. They tend to be very "3 ball" happy at times and will settle for them frequently. If they are not shooting well, they can be beat by any team. Losing Tree really hurt their inside game. Pat F. is an average post player who lacks the aggressiveness of Treadwell. They are deep and can go 10 deep without much drop off. There offense is sporadic and they get most of their points from turnovers and three point baskets. I would LOVE to see BG upset them and set themselves up for a great MAC season.... Roll along...

Wow, I hadn't heard that Treadwell was dismissed from the program. What happened!?

Not going to lose any sleep over that, for sure. That dude has been a dominant beast against us for 3 years. Quite glad to see him gone. Now can we please beat those Kangaroos!?

IIRC, it was a team rule violation, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. I am sooooooooooooo sick and tired of losing to these guys. I go almost every year to the JAR and almost every year walk out pissed.

This time it's different. We have a HC that gets it and knows how to win. I get home from work at 6 and will be at the JAR by 6:45. Time to end this very ugly streak and remain unbeaten in the MAC.

Decided to beat up his girl at a party seemed like a good idea at the time... with today's climate-not the best idea

One thing is for certain, other guys besides Holmes are gonna need to step up big time as Akron is gonna swarm Holmes when he has the ball. Last year in one of the games vs Akron, as soon as we feed Holmes he was immediately double-teamed and it gave us fits. I fully expect to see that again tonight.

I'm sure they'll do that. Our answer to that is we have guys hitting jump shots this year :) Denny, Austin, Henderson and Clarke are all shooting well from outside and Joseph hasn't been half bad either.

Sitting in the JAR watching the Zips warm up. They sure have a lot of guys who don't look like a D1 basketball player. In the past, Akron players looked like NBA players and intimidated the other team. This team looks like a bunch of nice young men. Maybe I am getting old?

I would be surprised if we didn't beat them tonight. They are lost without the BIG D. Toledo walked away from them in the second half Friday.

As expected, they are swarming Holmes and now he just picked up his second foul with 11:39 to go in the first half. BG missing all kinds of shots including a few layups.

Zips killing us with threes. We've bricked a bunch of them. Down 20-11 just like that. Looks like Akron still has our number.
