Re: BG discussed in USCHO's TMQ
Be sure to scroll down and watch the goal that the Boston U goalie scored for Wisconsin! DOH!!
I think that is worse than the goal that hit Paul Connell's (at least, I think it was him!) stick, went up in the air and rolled down his back in the net!! Can't remember who we were playing or if we won, but it was a VERY memorable goal, for sure!!

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Marta(or Rick),
What exactly is PAIRWISE? I ran into a young couple while leaving a HS basketball game last nite. They saw my BG cap, said they were alums...then mentioned they were big hockey fans, talking about BG's being ranked etc. I said I thought we were 5th and they mentioned pairwise ratings. I've seen you folks mention it before, wondered what the term means.

Re: BG discussed in USCHO's TMQ
Pairwise (also known as PWR) is the computer ranking system that determines who goes to the NCAA tourney. The top 10 teams in Pairwise are guaranteed spots, while 11-16 can get in depending on how many conference champions are outside of the top 16, since conference champs are automatic bids to the tournament. If the season were to end today, BG would be in the NCAA tourney as a 2 seed, because we're 5th in PWR.

Du hockey comme dans le temps!
Re: BG discussed in USCHO's TMQ
In a nutshell, the computer ranking is based on how well each team has done against their competition and their strength of schedule. Given that, we can actually win 2 games against a very weak team and hurt our PWR because that teams PWR ranking is so low. If that is the case, the games against that team may be thrown out. In our case, our 2 game sweep of Alabama Huntsville earlier this season are thrown out because it lowers our PWR. Strength of schedule is key to maintaining a high PWR. Fortunately the WCHA has done fairly well this year (at least 3 teams have) so our SOS has stayed pretty high giving us our current 5th place ranking in the PWR. Unfortunately we have 4 games left against the weakest teams in the conference (LSSU and Alabama Huntsville). It's crucial that we win all of those games because a loss will really cause our PWR to plummet like Michigan Tech's after they lost their second game against Wisconsin.
