Because we aren't good enough at football...we play in a secondary league and we have no business making demands.
The problem with expanding the playoff to eight....is the league titles and the bowl games. You start expanding the playoff and you diminish the importance of the league titles becase you open more doors for "at large" berths for the losers. Leagues sell those games as meaningful, life and death struggles. Adding a layer between the league titles and the bowl games diminshes the impact of the traditional bowl games...those games geneerate huge interest and cash. You will literally be giving those games a week to sell those travel packages and whatnot. Don't see that happening because it will impact the bottom line of people far more powerful than the folks on the outside.

Re: My stream of thoughts on BG and College Football
I've been watching college football since the early '70s. I do it for one reason only: I find it entertaining. I watched before there were any playoffs, I watched through the BCS, and I still watch. I enjoy our regular season games against P5 teams and our conference rivals. They are fun to watch.
You know what, I don't care if there is a "legitimate" champion. I like to watch exciting games between teams that are trying to win and feel like they have to win. I think that is entertaining.
I enjoyed the pre-BCS polls and all the discussion and whining around them. I like the fact that one P5 conference will be excluded from this trumped up playoff, because it's interesting and entertaining.
A sixteen team playoff would remove much drama from the regular season and focus everyone on four weeks in December. I'm not sure I would like that. I used to watch college hoops regular season when there were 24 and 32 spots in the tournament. Since we went to 64 -- not so much.

Has that "fairness" helped the MAC even one little bit? we were a one bid league when the field was 32..we're a one bid league when it's 64 and we haven't won the damn thing even once. I don't think the conference has nearly the talent it did in the 70's and 80's.
I think the talent level is directly related to the number of DI basketball teams, 351 now. In the 70's it might have been 1/3 of that. Many of these "new" schools were NAIA, DII or DIII colleges back then and decided to play DI basketball for prestige. Take them out of the equation and there's more than a thousand new recruits in the mix.
