Interesting fact about former head coach

Post by Warthog »

Bob Gibson was the head coach for BGSU from 1965-1967 compiling a 19-9 record, 11-7 in the MAC (tied for first in 1965). He moved on to coach in the NFL. He called probably the most infamous play in the history of the NFL (well, maybe the most infamous prior to that one on Sunday), was fired the next day and NEVER coached again even though he was only 51.

Who knows what that play call was?

The Miracle at the Meadowlands.

Why do you think Hermann Edwards appears on Mike and Mike in the mornings?

Good call Transfer. I had no idea he was the Giants OC that called the play. And I didn't realize he was fired the next day and never coached again. Crazy.

I didn't know this either, but I don't follow the NFL all that much (other Browns). I knew Gibson while at BG... A good guy.

I happened to see something a little earlier about bonehead plays and that was one of them that was mentioned. The article did not mention his BGSU connection.

Interesting thing about the article had different sports mixed in - Chris Webber's timeout in the National Championship game vs. Carolina, Buckner not being pulled late in the WS game. Very interesting article.

I think they lived on Cherry Hill. His sons were tough boys - played football, worked hard. Hard nosed people.
