Sweet looking Nikes....
Re: Sweet looking Nikes....
I know I'm in the minority but I absolutely HATE Brown as a primary color. Probably why I enjoy the grey as a switchup. But if you're going to be anal retentive about not including colors that are not part of our official color scheme then I would prefer to see just the Orange & Whites. I absolutely detest the Brown jerseys that we wore recently that had no orange on them. I'm not a fan of the Browns' brown jerseys. The Brown pants that Cleveland wears are hideous as well.
I realize it's our secondary color. I like it perfectly fine as an accent color to orange/white jerseys and/or pants. I hate it as a primary color...just looks awful to me.
I realize I'm in the minority, I realize it's one of our two official colors, but that's still my preference. Of course no matter what styles/colors they go with it won't change a whole lot to me. If they come up with a style/color combo that I really like I MIGHT buy a jersey, but other than that it really has no effect on me.

I would not describe brown as a secondary color. We have two colors. And I think orange works better as an accent than brown.hammb wrote:I realize it's our secondary color. True. Shouldn't call Brown our secondary color...it's one of our two colors.Schadenfreude wrote:I would not describe brown as a secondary color. We have two colors. As for your last sentence, I'll just say that my preference is a complete 180* disagreement. Of course like anything style/art/etc it's purely a matter of taste and is entirely subjective.
I've never once complained about having Brown jerseys because they have just as much legitimacy as orange jerseys...I just personally don't like the look. To each their own.

That's fair. I would add this though: A small line or two of brown in a sea of orange or white is hard to distinguish for what it is. It can be confused with black very easily. In this scenario, it is difficult to fully appreciate the brown for its brownness.hammb wrote:As for your last sentence, I'll just say that my preference is a complete 180* disagreement. Now, whether or not brown is a color that deserves to appreciated for its brownness is a subjective opinion. I'll grant that.
But whether or not human eyes can easily determine that a tiny bit of brown in a sea of orange or white is, in fact, brown? Objectively, I think you could show that the brown is hard to pick up in those situations.
That's why I personally think orange makes a better accent, because you can still see it's orange, even in small amounts.

meh...I don't really care about the use of grey or black. I know...they aren't "our colors"...but the players today like them and it's just as much their school as it was/is mine...

Hambb, as much as i'd like to see the "real" brown jersies, I agree w/ you on the Browns' game pants. Only way they MIGHT look ok is w/ some orange and or white stripe...and an all brown uni looks terrible. Still think the 1980's look was sharpest...brown jersies / orange pants. Either of our current helmets would look fine w/ this combo.

I'm with you. I haven't seen a predominantly brown look I have ever thought looked good.hammb wrote:I know I'm in the minority but I absolutely HATE Brown as a primary color. I like that look, which updates that classic early 1980s look when Brian McClure was slinging the ball.
Personally, I think our best uniforms might have been these from the Tyler Sheehan era.
I'd tweak them by:
-- Reversing the brown and the orange on the home jerseys
-- Going with our current helmets (and maybe emphasizing the white ones; they have really grown on me).
-- Maybe orange pants with white stripes at home

I don't like the above-the-shoulder stripes. I wish we had stripe pattern on the sleeves similar to Auburn:

I wish all our sports would wear some kind of horizontal stripe pattern that mimicked campus architecture. If you've ever taken a close look at the buildings on campus, most of them have horizontal elements that match the surrounding landscape, or lack of landscape, depending on how you think of it.

Re: Sweet looking Nikes....

Honestly, if it had been up to me, I never would have changed from these uniforms. The Falcons did some real damage playing in these uniforms, and it would be fun to have maintained that tradition.
But Gary Blackney did change things up. He shifted to orange, and the uniforms have been evolving ever since. Now here we are, without much a uniform tradition, and silly looking faux feathers on the shoulders of our players.
I'm not sure we can go back to this mid-1980s design. It's probably too fuddy duddy for today's students. But the colors are pretty awesome.

This is the uni I've referred to in the past. Not sure if the white helmets would fit the look, but this still looks great!
