Big win and we needed that to keep pace! But man have the last several games been nerve-wracking down the stretch. The Akron, CMU and NIU games have been three consecutive gut-wrenchers!

Absolutely. Any road win in the MAC is BiG. 8 games left in the regular season. 4 home, 4 on the road. GO BG!

Yet, with the small capacity they still built the corner section of the Stroh facing straight ahead into the seats behind the basket. How in the world that happens with a new arena I have no idea. Even Anderson Arena built back in 1960 had corner sections on an angle. SMH

You are forgetting who was in charge and approved it!
Maybe so but how does that even get designed by a professional company in the first place???
Spoke with the project manager after the completion of the stroh and he was up front that those seats were a pure cost cutting measure in the design. He actually brought it up to me when we were discussing the project...I hadn't noticed until he said sometching.

I got the impression he was disappointed they went that route...especially since I think the project ended up coming in under budget anyhow.

Thanks for the info (honestly, because I have often wondered how in the world this happened). But hearing that info is even more troubling knowing the design flaw was actually known and pushed aside. Who's decision was that to make??? So let me get this straight, we constructed the seating - essentially wrong - to save money on an arena that came in under budget???? WTF?! This is the kind of thing that makes me scream when I hear our administration claim we hit a "home run" with the arena. That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. How much more expensive could it have been to have the damn seats designed correctly little like every other arena across the country with corners??? Wow. Only at BG.....no way you see another new arena built that way and see this problem. None. Especially considering the old arenas were never designed that way either. I heard people who sat in those sections complained how bad the seats were for the Michigan State game and the women's NCAA Tournament games. When you build an arena as small as the Stroh, no way should you have seating sections where the seats suck. If your capacity is barely over 4,000, then ALL the seats should be good.

Well let's get back to the game. We battled back from down 18-4 on the road to win. That's huge. We had a horrible start and then nearly blew all of our 13-point lead coming down the stretch to close the game. Clarke and Holmes made some big shots and Henderson made a pair of huge free throws. Gotta admit I didn't expect him to make them both as he's surprising a sort of poor shooter from the line.

We still need to work on breaking the press (I was very surprised NIU didn't pressure us more) and our transition defense has been extremely suspect. When we make a shot teams are racing down the floor before we can get back and set up and they're getting easy looks. We need to get that shored up as well. Another tough game vs defending MAC champ WMU up next.

Nice five minute stretch by Gomez when Holmes was sitting in the second half. Drained a long two and was very active on defense.

Gomez provided really good minutes off the bench, and BG made several crucial free throws. This team is becoming really tough.

Most of the gymnasiums in the MAC are way too big. OU and Miami seldom met expectations over the past 40 years. Toledo uses theirs to capacity occasionally as does Kent and Akron. Basketball at Ball St has been dead since Bonzi. And the Michigan schools don't show much either. Not sure about Buffalo.

Don't forget The School Up North spent almost $30 million to renovate their arena and REDUCED the seating available by 1,700.
