What does This Season Say About Louis Orr...

Post by Rollo83 »

How do you feel about Louis Orr after watching things unfold this season?

1. Has it validated you feelings about him not being a very good coach?

2. Has it made you rethink that he was able to recruit some very good talent to BG?

3. Both?

1. Validates in my mind what a horrid coach he was. Holmes, Clarke, and Henderson are all playing far better than they ever played under Orr. I also shudder to think where this team would be under Orr because he showed for 7 years he had no clue what a D1 PG looked like and we definitely would have Joseph or Austin on this team.

2. Nope. This team is still undertalented and is doing it on the back of the one great player that Orr recruited here. There was NOTHING at PG and Jans wisely brought in 2 new guys that can actually facilitate an offense. Clarke, Henderson, and Denny are playing well under Jans so I guess kudos to Orr for those guys as well, but still that's only part of a team. This team wouldn't be winning had Jans gone with the status quo at PG, and none of the frontcourt depth that Orr recruited looks like it deserves to be on a D1 roster. Jans has his hands full building a winning roster in '15-'16 far moreso than he even did for this year.

He was a horrible coach. The worst game managing coach BG has had by far. Look down toward the end of the bench to understand he was for the most part a poor recruiter.

Can we enjoy a fun season without kicking Orr around? We get it...he wasn't a good coach....when do we just move on?
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

My thoughts as well.

Thoroughly enjoying the Jans era and we are only 23 games in. Hope there are many, many more.

Some of our guys "at the end of the bench" look like Division 2 players.

I would give up success this year for what I think will be success the next 4

This team now has fire in games and apparently in practice by all accounts. Orr apparently had neither.
The roster needed some additions every year that were never made. Jans identified needs and made additions in a limited time frame. Orr did not.
Orr brought in players that had talent but not enough that the ones he brought could not do it in a team approach which relieves pressure.
Orr did identify good players but not enough to create competition in practice or for playing time or to utilize an offense with multiple threats.
Orr did have the team playing good defense but without offense they needed to pitch a shutout and that's just not going to happen at DI college level.

Orr was a good guy who knows basketball but did not have the fire or urgency to get the job done. Change was needed, change was made and this change is good. We should hope Jans will ride this wave for a period of years but he is obviously one of the best, if not the best, coaches in the MAC instantly we all know what that means.
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.
