As I have mentioned several times, I subscribe to UM's Scout.com site. They have now confirmed through John Beilein that Max Bielfeldt will NOT be offered a fifth year at Michigan.

He would be eligible to play right away. While he has shown glimpses of solid play mixed with equally as frustrating glimpses ... it begs the question, would you take a 6-8ish stretch four/smallish five that has four years experience in the B1G and can step out and hit the occasional 3?? I would absolutely take him but fifth year guys are usually in high demand. Even ones with limited skill sets

I'd take him in a heartbeat. We need to replace Holmes right away and a kid like that would give us an immediate starter at that spot while we work Worrell and any incoming frosh into the role/rotation.

Would be a huge get.

Jans has shown a lot of interest in junior college transfers. Now we could get a transfer albeit for only one year who has experience playing against infinitely better competition than the junior college players. Yes I'd be interested.

This acquisition makes sense for a team in "win now" mode with a big hole that the player can immediately fill. BG won't be in that mold next year.

Next year, we will be rebuilding our scoring offense around Denny, Parker, and Worrell, among others. We won't be in a "win-now" mode, and this 5th year guy might take playing time from players needing to develop for the future (Worrell, Maybelen, Friday, and PTBAL).

In general, it's hard for me to get enthused about a 1-year guy unless he's a MAC POTY type player.

I completely disagree. We should always be in win now mode. We might not know who our primary scorers are next year but that will come, who knows it could be this guy. You get a guy who has been around a program like this for 4 years and put him in our system and he becomes a leader that the other guys can watch and see how a veteran is supposed to act. That's the type of player you want on any team.

In the MAC a top talent (especially in the post area) can take you from so-so to #1. This conference is so tightly bunched that anybody with star potential can take you over the top.

I don't care if it's 1 year or 4 years, take the best talent you can get. There is no such thing as a developmental year, in college basketball. JuCos and other transfers can have too big of an impact to sit back and wait for all your HS freshman to develop.

I'm all for bringing in 1-2 HS kids every year, but also supplementing that with JuCo and other transfers. Dunno if there's any chance at all that this kid would choose BG, but if he has an affinity for Mr. Spots that puts us in a great position. And I'd gladly take him.
