Coach K and Toledo to proud not to play post season. He said he wouldn't let his team play in anything but the NIT.

I agree with his decision 100 percent. Schools do not go through the season dreaming of playing in the CIT or the others that exist. I doubt that the alumni at Toledo will be too disappointed.

I'm not a fan if these smaller post season tournaments. I think schools lose more money that they make. Look at BG. With travel expenses and what not are you telling me BG will make money. No. Wasted money that could be used on salaries or other areas in the athletic department. I even think the NIT should be eliminated. There are 68 spots available. That should be the goal. I also think there are too many college football bowl games too. Who wants to see a 6-6 team play. Do you honestly think Holmes, Clarke and our seniors are going to get up and play a meaningless game after for what, so you can say your #98!!!! Some people are in favor of these tournaments and apparently Coach K in Toledo is not. Now the fans that's another story. Read their message boards. Alot of their fans want him fired!!

I agree with his decision. For our team having a first year coach, this is great experience and worth the cost. For Toledo and their currently position, I don't blame them at all for saying no to the bottom two tournaments.

I bet Richaun Holmes, Anthony Henderson and Jehvon Clarke are pretty happy.

Each player reacts differently. It was reported Boothe and Brown up in Toledo didn't want to play in these lower level tournaments. In the ABJ it was stated that the Akron seniors didn't want to play in these tournaments. My gut feeling is Clarke, Henderson and Holmes probably didn't care one way or another but these extra games gives the younger players more experience as well as Chris Jans more coaching experience.

Too proud? To paraphrase Ralph Cifaretto, who does he think he is? Sir Walter Raleigh? The other Coach K would consider the NIT itself (his acceptably prestigious cut-off point) to be slumming it.

It's a postseason tournament involving teams with winning records. The games count just like any other. It's an opportunity for the players to play another game with their teammates wearing their school colors. Isn't that what college athletics is supposed to be about?

BG and Kent State both won their first-round games in the CIT. WMU lost in the CIT, CMU lost in the NIT and EMU lost in the CBI. Buffalo has yet to play in the NCAA. The MAC is 2-3 in the postseason thus far.

I think Jans and Lil coach K made the correct decision for their respective teams

Kent State advanced to the quarterfinals of the CIT and just had a massive collapse in the closing seconds to lose by one in OT at Northern Arizona. KSU was up 73-68 with :32 left and fouled NAU and they made both to make it 73-70. Kent State then inbounded the ball and was bringing it up the court and had it poked away leading to an uncontested layup, 73-72 with :24 seconds left. KSU then breaks their press and goes in for a layup and is blocked from behind, leading to a runout the other way with :14 left, NAU now up 74-73. Kent inexplicably walks the ball up the court with the clock running, needs only a two to win, dribbles out high then makes a pass to the elbow behind the arc where a desperation three is put up before the buzzer that is an airball. To watch it unravel the way it did was ridiculous. NAU fans stormed the floor and the place was going nut (really nice crowd at the game too). I know a 5-point lead with :32 left is far from insurmountable, but Kent State blew that game. Just glad if wasn't us doing something like that.

i watched Northern AZ play at Toledo earlier this season. Toledo beat them easily. NAU never really made a run. My point is Toledo may have been able to win the CIT - but Would anyone really have cared beating teams like NAU to win the thing?
