Bad Weekend

Post by BGDrew »

I went to the Saturday game, and here's what I got from it:

1) The announcer's would never announce anything that was in favor of BG. This includes "Bowling Green back at full strength, BG goal scored by..........," etc. I'm going to act like this was an honest mistake, because otherwise it's very un-professional and disrespectful.

2) Cheerleader's at hockey games?

3) Announce attendance was 11,000+, there is no way in hell there was 11k there. The lower bowl wasn't even full. Also, that is the quietest crowd I've ever seen for a hockey game. The "student section" (all 20 of them in front of the band) was a joke. Me and my 3 friends were louder than the rest of them.

4) tOSU fans/students are the most arrogant SOBs I've ever seen in my life. I almost snapped when a fan made a comment directed towards Siggy in regards to MS. Also, went to my friend's frat after the game to see my friend from HS I hadn't seen in a year. I walked in with my Sharon jersey on and one of his frat guys said: "Is that Harris' jersey?" I told him no, it was Charles Sharon. His response: "Is that some n*****." Yep, he dropped the n-bomb and went on to say how much he hated them and dogged on Jacobs. However, after his little racist tirade he said how much he loved Ted Ginn Jr. When I asked him why Ginn was ok he said: "He's not a n*****."

All in all, it's a miracle I didn't get in a fight this weekend. I'm not going back to that hell hole for any amount of money in the world. F-Ohio State and it's "fans."

I hope we see them in the Super Six and kick the crap out of them.

I noticed that too. They also didn't replay, on the big screen, any of the goals we scored. Total bush league if you ask me.

I also noticed...NO ONE showed up to meet and greet after first period!! BGFan and I were there, no one else came. BGBill said he went there right before we got there and the same thing, no one was there. So after the second period was over, we went up to the second level and had a beer instead!!! :partyman:

Frustrating weekend of hockey.....grrrrrr!!!!

MajorFalcon...GREAT to see you (and Mrs. Major) again!! Thanx for the DVD!!!

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

did they do replays at all? I noticed there weren't any when I was LOOKING for them, but I didn't notice if it they were running them for OSU (at least on Friday). I did notice at the end of the game, there was a good 30 second pause in between announcing OSU's shot total for the third period/game and announcing BG's.

I really hate that place, but it was GREAT to see some hockey again!

Everything about that place and weekend was Bush League. BGDrew hit on all of my points!

Sorry I missed the meet and greet, I was steaming about the 1st period and forgot all about it

Edit:

Ya know, looking back I really didn't mind getting taunted by 6000 fans up at Yost b/c they knew why they were taunting me. They know the sport and don't (for the most part) go to it and root for it just because it's Michigan.
OSU fans sicken me. Five minutes after the game when they're yelling at you, you could ask them what sport they just watched and they wouldn't know.

I was shocked to read that you guys sat by bad fans... saturday night the people i sat by were funny... this elderly woman thought someone got killed the way I jumped up and started screaming when we scored the first goal of the night  whoops ;-) other than that everyone was calm... what a shitty thing to say about Siggy... you know they aren't class when they have to pull comments like that out

No kidding... I was shocked at how quiet it was. At one point I could hear the players yelling, "I'm open!" or something like that... and I was way up in the upper deck!! Nobody was enthusiastic at all... the atmosphere just wasn't any fun.

The one thing that tickled me was the band yelling in unison, at a (more) quiet moment, "And Michigan still sucks!!" (I'm not saying anything about either school... it just entertained me.) Not that I'm advocating imitating OSU in any way.... but as a member of the BG A-band, I wouldn't mind us randomly yelling such things about Toledo...

Everything about that eyesore of an arena SCREAMED professional hockey/basketball. It would be a great place if it was intended to be for, say, a minor league hockey team, or small-market NBA team. But, as far as college hockey goes, I think the Suckeyes have managed to throw just as much water on the fire as they could so as to just leave a few embers burning.

I don't know if it was the fact that the cavernous roof sucked up sound, or that OSU fans just really do suck that much, but I'm guessing it was a combination with emphasis on the latter. That place just felt like a funeral when OSU wasn't scoring (which they only did 3 times each night...). The rest of the time everyone just sat there as if they were listening to the game on the radio. Even when OSU would make a good shot that Siggy made an even better save on, I didn't really hear the common "Ooooh!" from the crowd.

I was absolutely sickened that we lost to those a**holes. They are good, but I certainly don't think they are worthy of being the #7 team in the country. It is clear to me, though, that the Schotenstein Center has significantly impacted their recruiting. They do have some heavy hitters out there, but I can't really imagine why a kid would really want to go and play in that sterile of an environment. Well, other than the fact that they get to sh*t on a golden toilet and drive a different car every week.

I really hate them, and I really hope we get another crack at them at the Joe. I wouldn't see us losing to them again....as long as Shegos isn't there...

I just got back to BG after a loooong weekend back home...

...being at OSU rekindled my intense hatred for the place!

I had fun at the game on Saturday night though. Even though we lost, I sat in a section of the upper deck with at least 20 other BG fans. A family from OSU made the mistake of sitting near all us BG fans. When the team came out before the game started, us BG fans started cheering. When we were done, one of the little boys said to his dad, "I don't want to sit here anymore!" and they moved. I thought that was funny!

My brother, who attends Ohio Northern, had a great time rooting for BG. I think he just enjoyed being loud and obnoxious.

I also apologize about not making it to the meet and greet. I spent both intermissions standing in line at the concession stands because the first time I got in the wrong line and was unable to redeem my free voucher for my hot dog. That 4 tickets for $40 was a good deal, except for the fact the seats were so far up!

Even though we lost, I still had a great time! :)

While I wasn't able to attend either game this weekend, I am not surprised at the least about the total lack of class that those who went are recanting. I got alot of the same thing last year with the band at the football game (band uniform makes a great target for @$$hole$). Even the comment about Siggy doesn't really shock me. The worse part about things is that the worst fans have no real ties to the university (alumnus, student or imididate family who are). It has been my experience that people who have some connection to the university are ussally tolerable. Growing up a Michigan fan (dad is an almunus) and living in Ohio I have born the brunt of osu "fans" many times. It never ceases to amaze me how un-classy they tend to be. I am glad to see that those who went down did not stoop to the level that osu seems unable to pull themselves above. After hearing tails like these, it reminds me why I am proud to be a Falcon!

And it's just sweet justice that Michigan pulled off their normal offensive flurrey and beat Neb. in the 3rd period. Michigan's still in first, so put that in your pipe and smoke it OSU! That's pretty good for us too... now just to get pesky fairbanks away from us so we don't have to travel there for the first round...
