No Holmes or Dickerson???
No Holmes or Dickerson???
Holmes didn't play or even travel to SFU. Anyone know what the deal is? Dickerson didn't play either. Any info on him either?

Re: No Holmes or Dickerson???
In post game radio, Jans said Holmes was a scratch due to health reasons, saying "he is pretty beat up" and it's in the medical staff's hands if he can go in the next game. Jans said he hopes Holmes can go and "get in another college basketball games with all his teamates he's worked so hard with over the last few years"
No mention of Dickerson, and Todd Walker didn't ask any follow up questions about why. It was said simply by Walker that "he couldn't go". Jans didn't mention Dickerson.

Thanks for the info. I really hope Holmes can go. It was sad watching him struggle like he did (mainly because he was swarmed) in the second half of the EMU game. Would love to see him come back and play with his teammates.Hdog wrote:In post game radio, Jans said Holmes was a scratch due to health reasons, saying "he is pretty beat up" and it's in the medical staff's hands if he can go in the next game. Re: No Holmes or Dickerson???
You had to know that Holmes was still hurt when you look at his performance in the second half against EMU. After getting my bell rung this summer and seeing how easily you can be sidelined for months, I no longer feel compelled to expect anyone with any sort of head injury to play this soon. It's just not worth it.
On Dickerson, I thought I saw a tweet from someone last night that he has been hurt all year.

Yeah I got a tweet saying he had been hurt all year and the coaching staff was just trying to rest him. No sort of disciplinary punishment. At least not acknowledged publicly.
Re: No Holmes or Dickerson???
It is my understanding that Dickerson has a knee problem that will be taken care of when the season is over.

I guess that is a "knee problem"!
Re: No Holmes or Dickerson???
I was told that Holmes felt fine and that it was BG that was holding him back. I heard that he told his parents he felt fine to play vs Ball State but obviously was held out.Redwingtom wrote:You had to know that Holmes was still hurt when you look at his performance in the second half against EMU. As for the EMU game, Holmes was shredding EMU in the first half. In the second half, they collapsed their zone and doubled down on him every single time he touched the ball. They clearly made the adjustment at halftime that someone besides Holmes was going to need to beat them. And it was a brilliant move because no one did or could. Now I'm not saying he was in tip-top shape, but EMU's defensive adjustment was why he had the bad second half. Jans said he was a little winded from missing some time off but it wasn't even a week. It's not like he missed a few months. That first half was as good of a half as he's had all year. They simply wouldn't let him do anything as soon as he touched the ball in the second.
I just hope he's good to go come Saturday.

That's interesting because an EMU fan said that Holmes was open all second half and that our guards just didn't get him the ball and opted for their own shots instead.BGSU33 wrote:I was told that Holmes felt fine and that it was BG that was holding him back. That being said...I sure hope Holmes is being honest in how he feels...it's really up to him to let the medical staff know if he is feeling light headed, dizzy, or if the room is spinning when he lays down. I know that's what I was dealing with for quite awhile after a fall I took last summer. I would feel pretty normal walking around and such, but if I tried to lay down I felt like I was drunk. It's pretty scary.

Re: No Holmes or Dickerson???
What the hell game was that EMU fan watching??? Further, for an EMU fan to say such a thing doesn't even make sense because they play a zone. We were there and every time we got Holmes the ball in the second half they collapsed their zone and swarmed him. The game is on ESPN3 if you want to see for yourself (they archive them). When you face a zone (a 2-3, a 3-2 or a 1-3-1) no one is essentially "covered" the way they are in a man-to-man defense as the zone moves, shifts and flows with the ball (unless it's vs a Box and 1 with the "1" being blanketed). EMU plays essentially an exclusive 2-3 zone. BG was extremely effective getting and giving Holmes the ball in the first half by breaking their zone that EMU was playing "straight up" as he scored 16 points including several nasty dunks against it. At halftime they made the adjustment to collapse and double down on Holmes every time he touched and he couldn't do anything but dish the ball. It put the pressure on our guard to take and make shots and they didn't. It was extremely effective as it totally took Holmes out of our offense. He had nowhere to operate, as soon as he touched the ball two guys were on him like flies on $hit. Rewatch it for yourself as it clearly sounds like you didn't see it. You'll see.Redwingtom wrote:That's interesting because an EMU fan said that Holmes was open all second half and that our guards just didn't get him the ball and opted for their own shots instead.BGSU33 wrote:I was told that Holmes felt fine and that it was BG that was holding him back. Re: No Holmes or Dickerson???
Holmes was not right in the 2nd half vs Eastern. Played much less than normal, and several times had a towel over his head on the bench. I'm not surprised at all that he did not play Tuesday.
Re: No Holmes or Dickerson???
Coach Jans said it directly in his postgame presser in Cleveland. Holmes could not go physically in the second half against EMU. He said he had not practiced since his injury against Buffalo. That means he hadn't done any conditioning for at least 10 days or more. Jans said he had no wind in the second half. The kid gave a gallant effort in the first half, but obviously wasn't himself...especially on the defensive end. How many lay-ups did EMU guards get with nobody protecting the rim? That wasn't the Holmes we had seen all season.
Unfortunate!

Re: No Holmes or Dickerson???
Here's a thought...the f**king coach has an idea re who can go and who can't...if someone isn't playing, there has to be a reason, eh? Unless you think this is the WWE and Jans has turned heel on us and is tanking games so our enemies in Toledo will benefit...
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
