Akron Buchtel beat Massillon in Paul Brown Tiger Stadium Friday night.
33-20 after leading 25-10 at the half....in Massillon's 1,000th game in their history. Buchtel had only one healthy returning starter on offense, 5 on defense. Buchtel lost 13, 13 players who are in various college programs this year. Making it worse, fullback/LB Marlon Terry (Pitt recruit) broke his leg in preseason. The game was delayed due to lightning Friday and Buchtel had to drive back to Akron arriving at midnight. The kids had to return at 8am the next day to drive back to Massillon to complete the game. NOBODY picked Buchtel to win.

I refuse to believe Bowling Green State University cannot win this game. And until I see a final score with Oklahoma having more points than the Falcons, I'll believe we can win this game.

Freak..I love your optimistic approach!! You're right, anything can happen in sports. If we get some breaks and play one of those "can do nothing wrong" games, I think it plays out just like the Indians/Yankees game last night. Like Brandon said this week, "our team will be ready". "They fear NO ONE!!" Last years victories made it clear to me that his guys feed off of his confidence.

Someone else said in another thread that the only result that would surprise them would be BG blowing out Oklahoma. I'm in the same boat.

It wouldn't surprise me if Oklahoma won going away ... It's Omar's first start, our D-Line will be thin, OK is stacked.

It wouldn't surprise me if BG posted a solid win ... the buzz on Omar is incredible and this stage may be just what he needs to bust out, BG proved it could play with anyone last year, we learned some hard lessons last year and our coaching staff has had another year to jell.

A last-second win by either time wouldn't surprise me, either.

I remember flying to Seattle to cover the BG-Washington game in 1986 filled with a sense of dread. My fears were realized in a beating that wasn't even as close as the score would indicate. I have no such feeling about this game. BG belongs on the field with the Sooners, and that's something that we couldn't always say.

BG-Washington 1986? 48-0. I talked to Mrs. Freak's cousin Mike Foor, BG DL from 1982-1985, and he said some of his friends on the 86 team were telling him how the Husky defense was asking the BG offense when they were gonna finally get a first down....in the middle of the 3rd quarter.

The only game worse, IMO, was the 58-0 beating Kansas State gave us in 1997. That SOB Snyder kept Michael Bishop in the game until the last 10 min and kept throwing the ball, with KSU leading 37-0. BG had 65 total yrds of offense and KSU had 630+. Ricky Schnieder was the BG QB because Bobby Niemet got injured the week before at Akron when a Zip defender head slammed him 10 yards out of bounds with no penalty.

OU is a scary team. They are likely the best team BGSU has ever played. We know they are the highest ranked.

This is uncharted territory, so I understand the fear and pessimism.

However, last year proved that the top of the MAC could compete with ANYONE. I agree with the people who had totally different attitudes playing Ohio State last year. I was not "proud" of keeping it close initially, I was pissed we lost. I will be pissed IF we lose Saturday.

I know the team has to believe. I believe.

I agree with everyone - the only thing which would shock me is BG pulling a Kansas State and beating the snot out of OU. We CAN win this game.

I do "believe" in BG, I just also "believe" Oklahoma is a better team than we are. It's not an insult to BG to say we might not be a better team or might not beat Oklahoma! We are talking about the Sooners here, aren't we? Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to win against OU or any other team for that matter. But Oklahoma is one of about five teams in the country I want no part of.

The truth of the matter is, we are not the #1 team in the country. We have come a long, long way in recent years and I hope that continues. But just because some of us on the board don't feel BG will win against OU doesn't mean we are cutting on our Falcons. Heck, I'm more worried about our game at Northern Illinois than I am this game against Oklahoma. The fact of the matter is, I am a huge college football fan, and BG is my favorite team. Going off of what I know about Oklahoma and BG, and college football for that matter, I "think" Oklahoma will win this game. That doesn't make me an expert, and upsets always prove the doubters wrong anyway. But like some others on this board, I feel BG might come out on the losing end. I really do hope I am wrong.

I agree we may not win, thats why i made the final decision not to go last week, and sold my ticket and hotel room off to my buddy. With much regret I may add. I REALLY want to be there, and if we win, I will likely be in the BGPD jail saturday night. I have no idea what I will do if we win and i passed up the chance to go. BUT, at the same time, if I did go, we would lose, I can forsee this. Therefor, I am doing my best to help us win by not going, and holding down the fort in BG (upon my arrival tomorrow night) I really hope that showing at the stadium works out, what a great way to wear in teh new screen with the greatest opponent we've ever faced.

OK has no more game experience than they had the last two games of last season. they are not superhumans. they will rattle as well as anyone...especially when the unthinkable (from an OK perspective) is happening to them. we just have to play our best game and force them to not have their best...

I really think K State exposed some weaknesses last year and LSU followed suit. This can work to BGs benefit, because we may have gained some clues. Also, I am a firm believer that rankings mean absolutely nothing until some games have been played. We know that well from our own history of being ranked low and having to work our way back into the fold as the season progresses. OK lost some core players out of the defense last year and 2 of those players were solid anchors. Don't get me wrong...OK is returning another darn good team, but BG is no slouch. We have one of the best receiving cores in the country and the tailback spot can be just as explosive. We've got one of the largest offensive lines we've ever had and the defense is very quick. The question in all of our minds is Omar, but at least he doesn't have to win the game, he just needs to play the game to his capability and use the weapons around him. I believe this game will be close. Alabama only lost by 7 to OK last year. Even Colorado was within 2 touch downs. The BG that played at Purdue was confident. The BG that played at Ohio State lacked confidence. As long as BG goes in with confidence, this game can be won. I don't think it takes a perfect game by BG, but on the other hand, I know we can't make many mistakes.

I agree the Sooners are one hell of a team and look unstoppable....but KSU and LSU stopped them. BG is not as good as LSU but I'll put the Falcons up against Kansas State any day.

To win, BG needs to play a better game. Period.
