NCAA Tournament TIme
I was checking the tournament bracket today and couldn't find what time BG plays tonight. Can someone fill me in?

You didn't make it to one game this year did you? Why do you troll this board?

I was wondering the same thing about our basketball and football programs, I couldn't find what time their games started during the tournaments either...oh darn. Maybe next year will be the year for all of our sports.
Bring back the glory!
Re: NCAA Tournament TIme
Tech lost yesterday and Mankato is losing 2-1 to RIT in the third. Not a great showing for the WCHA to this point. I try not to overreact in single elimination tournaments, but I expected this to some degree. I thought Mankato would lose tomorrow. There isn't much skill and goal scoring ability in the league and you are seeing that quite clearly right now. Lots of shots, not enough goals.

At least Wilson and Hills coach RIT, if you're looking for a team to bandwagon.

Re: NCAA Tournament TIme
Both WCHA teams were beat on flukey plays. Tech was putting it to St Cloud in OT until that d man fell down to force the 2 on 1 then the d man blocks the puck back to the guys stick who puts it past the already commited goalie. Mankato runs over their own goaltender to lose. At least the Redskins are losing right now.

Miami just scored 3 goals in 9minutes. Most of the3rd Miami's played without a goalie.

2 quick thoughts.
1. Bad showing by the WCHA as a whole. Nothing against coach Wilson and Hills, but you can't lose to RIT in the first round as the overall 1 seed.
2. The NCAA tournament needs to change the format. Attendance stinks and hockey isn't getting the interest level nationally that people think. The first two rounds should be best 2 of 3 at home sites. At least then you'd see sell outs. Plus you have the weekend off currently. That way teams wouldn't have to wait 12 days between games.

Agree on the WCHA, I think it will certainly raise questions as to how good the conference was this year from top to bottom that MN State and Tech each had top 5 records but were dispatched from the tournament rather surprisingly. Next year should be wide open though for a few times that should improve.apollo wrote:2 quick thoughts.

Problem with NCAA hockey playing at neutral sites is that there's not enough time for schools who need to travel to have fans come along with them. Don't even get me started on the Providence thing either, a four seed should not have home ice advantage. No doubt it helped them along to the Frozen Four.
I'm not sure if playing games in the first round at campus sites would help or not but it needs to be considered. Or, at the very least, they need to get locations to host tournament games that make sense for a majority of schools geographically. Minnesota, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts would make the most sense every year, but as far as I know the NCAA is even having trouble getting sites to host regional games.

Re: NCAA Tournament TIme
Once upon a time the regionals were at home sites and were a two game total goals series. The argument being used against this format now is that many schools play at non-school owned or multi-purpose arenas and those arenas tend to schedule things way in advance. Leaving those slots open for a possible post season series that may or may not happen can cost a large sum of money. This was the primary reason that the NCAA went the regional route. There has been talk, however, of going back to campus sites for the first round due to low attendance. If that actually happens remains to be seen. If it does it may mean that some schools may have to forfeit their home ice advantage in one form or another.
