Some interesting numbers....

BG seems to be middle of the pack for just about everything with a few exceptions.

Highest football ticket sales, by over $400,000. Football recruiting is $157,000 less than Toledo (#1 budget) and is 2nd lowest in the MAC.

The only way to address it is to shift money around. There is no donor who will front $150k a year to make up for this. Frankly it doesn't need to be, if you have the right coach in place you he will find your players on whatever budget they have. Also BG has done pretty well for themselves in getting talent on the field.

In fairness, BG pays their assistant coaches the 2nd most in the conference. I would argue in this conference, that is just as important as recruiting. Everyone is getting basically the same level of players, although WMU is changing that.

I wouldn't be that concerned about recruiting budgets because there really isn't a large correlation between that budget and success. I'm curious what they even spend most of that budget on...travel for the coaches? Most of recruiting nowadays is done electronically. There are services that provide all the game film they'd ever want/need, and electronic communications with the recruits are the norm. Certainly you want to make some face to face visits as well, but I'm not convinced that spending 100s of thousands to fly our coaches all over the country is going to result in A) getting better players, nor B) making us a better team.

As 137 mentioned I'd much rather spend that money on assistant coaches so we can hire and retain the best corps of coaches in the conference.

Hell, Kent State has one of the best track records in the conference of bringing in NFL level talent and they don't win football games, or spend a ton on recruiting.

If I had to pick between assistant coaches salaries and the recruiting budget I'd pick giving coaches the money as well. But why should it have to be an either/or proposition? I'm not even talking about making the budget the highest or the second highest...just not second from last. BG should not be second to last in the conference in anything, let alone a hundred grand plus behind Toledo in anything except fumigation bills.

Hudl has absolutely made things cheaper and we've absolutely gotten excellent players with what we've had, but think of what the returns could have been if the budget was more competitive. These other schools are spending the money on something and our coaches should never be at a disadvantage.
