My initial thought is . . . just make Coach Downey the permanent replacement. Previous experience at the D2 level, tremendous help this year on the bench and provides a recruiting link to the current roster and the incoming guys.

But I approve of drinking and messing around with coeds.

"Hearing a cell phone video at a bar was involved in firing of Bowling Green basketball coach Chris Jans."

Was he at the bar with Gene Cross?

Wow. If indeed there is video then there's not much defense the guy has. Very shocking to say the least, the guy may have just ruined his career. One step forward and two steps back for BG basketball.

Wow. Whatever transpired must have been bad. Chris Kingston and any others involved did not hesitate. There's no news reports of something bad, no DUI arrests or other public records involved. While I'm sure we'll at some point hear what happened, I'd frankly rather not hear because bad conduct by such a public figure can be a horrible reflection on our university.

On the business front, we'll need a new coach ... ASAP. I'm not sure what is the better route, promote an assistant in order for continuity's sake or go with a clean slate. That's why we pay Kingston the big bucks, for him to make these kinds of decisions.

And one thing that hurts beyond the basketball side of the equation. We may not have been able to hire Jans without the generosity of Bill Frack. For a coach who has a job thanks to this remarkable generosity, the best way to honor Frack's memory is to live a way upholding his ideals. Whatever Jans did, he apparently failed on this front. Sad and disappointing.

What - in - the - hell?!?! ...... I had to read this over a second time thinking it had to be something I missed from April Fools. Nope. Just another dubious day in BG basketball history. This damn program can't get out of its own way anymore. Watching this program try and get up off the floor (which we finally did for one season before this) and stand on its own two feet is like watching the episode of the Three Stooges where the boat is filling up with water and Curly picks up a drill and says "Oh, a water-letter-outer" and drills another hole in the boat. If it's not one thing, it's another. What the hell is next? I liken this program anymore to Centralia, Pennsylvania. On the surface it looks nice, it's quiet, it even has a nice landscape to it. But below the surface it's burning, smoldering and feeding itself as it falls deeper and deeper into an ashy hole it can't ever stop or get out of. That is us. ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

Man......it's a good thing we haven't lost the last 21 out of 22 to Akron or we'd really be in a hole.....................

It's not about us having principles. Based on what I just found out, I'm glad we acted in the way we did and it sounds like we did exactly the proper thing needed here. And when it becomes public, I'm sure we'll all agree. It's about how much deeper this runs. This program has been spiraling for years now and this is just one more negative association with it. You might not get tired of watching and waiting for this program to stop spinning, but I am. It's embarrassing anymore.
