Huger and Downey are 1 and 1A and I don't care which order on my list.

And his former assistants have sucked as head coaches.[/quote]

Sean Miller, Archie Miller and Brad Stevens suck huh? That's pretty dumb.

If Sean Miller, Archie Miller or Brad Stevens are available, I say hire them. Otherwise, I'm good with hiring Downey & keeping as much of the current staff as possible.

I know this is kind of secondary to today's events but how does this impact the three recruits we have signed to letters-of-intent to play basketball here this coming fall? I got to believe the NCAA would allow them out of those commitments now.

Where did this chain of events take place? If he was obviously drunk when he got there, he shouldn't have been served any alcohol...it seems that they should have cut him off at some point.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Once they signed and all three have it is up to the school not the NCAA to release them. As Kingston proved with Edwards kid, if the job gets past Downey obviously conversations will take place as far as whether those kids want to honor their commitments.

I am really confused about Downey. Why would he even be a candidate at this point?

You and I are usually on the same page. Downey has taken Charleston College to the Dance with a 60-29 record, had developed winner at West Alabama and a few other stops. He has already won 200 games as a head coach. No one knows the recruits and current roster better.

If recruiting is a concern, check out the family pic posted on his or his wife's twitter accts.

Mike Rhoades is the head coach at Rice now.

Im not understanding something I think. Charleston College is in West Virginia and an NCAA school. And he was there. Took them to the dance and then left for another school?

I guess when I wrote that I was thinking all he had was D2 experience because I have been to Charleston and it didn't feel like D1 and I got the feeling he wouldn't leave a D1 school for a D2 school.

FWIW Ncaabbs said that Downey is a finalist for the Arkansas Little Rock Job.

Above all I DO NOT want to hire in house just because it would be easier. If Downey truly is the best candidate than I can be talked into it. However, you see a lot of programs have a hiccup and then add the quick and easy answer instead of the right answer.

The University of Charleston in Charleston, WV is NCAA Division II. That is where Downey coached and took his team to the NCAA Div II tourney.

The College of Charleston in Charleston, SC is NCAA Division I. Mark Downey has never coached here.

I was gathering information from his bio on the BG website. They didn't specify which Charleston, but no it was not College of Charleston.

The D2 version makes sense. Regardless he has won twice as many games as he hasn't as a head coach.

Not going to happen. Anthony feels his calling is at the high school level as a head coach. Look for him to be back on a high school sideline in November.
