Hypothetical, if this was Jans 4th year with the program, do you think termination would still be the end result?

I know I am going to be in the very slim minority here but I almost feel like a suspension and fine would have been acceptable punishment with a second chance.

If the family truly is gloating about it, that is plain and simply wrong and their actions don't meet their statement. Being related to Joe Tiller had nothing to do with this situation, so why name drop? It is my opinion they were seeking attention after reading through the 5 pages of email exchange.

I don't condone his actions by any means, but I also don't feel the punishment fits the crime in this situation. Administrative leave could have been given and it could have been handled internally and between Jans and the Tillers.

At the same time, it's nice to see Kingston has the courage to make the tough decision.

The Tillers all protected Twitter accounts after they realized people saw what was tweeted and retweeted. The most bizarre part came from a female who was pretty clearly involved in the situation. Not sure who she is, but her Twitter handle is unpostable. She was tossing around her opinion and the real story to anyone and everyone covering the story. Soon after, she began deleting tweets of her own and tweets to other Tiller family members regarding his firing. Again, the family got what it desired. If they care to celebrate, why do it on Twitter for people to see, and toss it out there for anyone to read. It like the emails, come off pretty poor. I won't even go into where the bar is at fault. At the end of the day, it's on Jans. Everyone looks really really bad. A Joe Tiller name drop, WOW.

If Jans has been warned of this type of behavior then it is the right move. He needs to be smart enough to know you can't hide as the head basketball coach in downtown BG. I do question to some degree whether he was out drunk with his friends or whether he was causing a major scene before he was confronted by this guy's daughter. He was wrong regardless, and I wasn't there to see what actually happened, but I am questioning at this point how poorly he was behaving before he was confronted. Maybe the bar staff was intimidated because of who he was, but when have you been out in downtown BG where someone is being a complete jackass, making a scene and bar staff just stands there and let's it happen? I guess after all this I just wonder if to some degree this isn't a case of someone looking for a gotcha moment.
Jans was wrong and I'm sure Kingston did his best investigating. It's just a shame, because I think the dude can really coach. He would have gotten BGSU into the NCAA tournament sooner rather than later.

In my opinion, this wasn't even close to first time Jans had been out and intoxicated. However, Kingston is better served to get out in front and avoid the potential disaster down the road for BGSU and himself. I wish I didn't read or know anything about the Tillers, it would be much easier to move on. The way they reacted said a whole lot of GOTCHA.

If I was in kingstons situation I would have not fired him. Forced rehab makes more sense imo. I don't think firing is terribly out of line though.

I agree, there had to have been a pattern of negative behavior before this.

The more I think about this, the more I believe multiple BG administrators, benefactors, etc. had to have significant input with this decision. Kingston was not solo on something of this magnitude. I wonder if Jans was abrasive in other situations? My guess yes, making the March 21st incident the final straw.

If this would have been a one-time, out of character incident, a public apology with some other form of discipline could have been done to keep Jans and to move forward. That kind of stuff is done frequently. We then may never have known the extent of what happened.

I hope we don’t end up focusing on what the role of the Tiller family was. Jans is the one that F---d up. He needs to own it.

I was especially shocked to read in the termination letter “One person described you as touching this women’s head and moving it towards your crotch”. This to me is a guy beyond being sloppy drunk, pissed at a poor end to the season, and yelling “Bitch” across the room. This sounds like a guy with a massive, annoying, dangerous ego. That is not a good look for the leader of your men’s basketball program.

Last – where is the apology from Jans today? I’m a bit surprised he didn’t issue some sort of statement. Even more baffling.

The only people he truly owes an apology to now is the Tiller family. If he made that privately to them that is all that is owed. He is no longer employed by BGSU, therfore he truly doesn't owe BG or its fans an apology. If he makes one, great, if not it doesn't matter, he is no longer a Falcon.

@TorgRadio is on the warpath for some reason, too.

I'm disappointed by the way the family has allegedly handled themselves in the wake of this, especially with the tone of the original emails released Thursday.

I am still proud of the administration of my alma mater to put wins and losses aside and stand up for the integrity of our beloved institution and I'd rather have this turn out to be a (somewhat slight, IMO, if at all) overreaction than something much worse and Pitino-y down the road.

As for a pattern of behavior, I'm finding it difficult to think there were past warnings for acts like this. As thorough as Kingston's termination letter was, I don't recall any mentions of "per previous conversations," etc. It was all pretty cut and dried that the actions of the night in question were enough to fire him.

Also IMO, the firing is justified because of the physical and verbal actions more than the fact that he was wasted in a bar. If that were the case, I'd understand rehab and a second chance, but in this culture, acting like he did toward women cannot be considered acceptable.

Remember Ron tiller mentioning a family member that played volleyball. She was included in celebration. I wonder if just maybe BG didn't offer her a scholarship. Just maybe.

When someone is being an a$$ in a bar most people either talk to the staff or leave. The Tiller family made themselves bigger victims than they needed to in this situation. If Jans isn't the out of control drunk (by all accounts) then these people have nothing to use against him. Unfortunately the way people are someone was going to record and document his behavior that night or on another night because he was about to build a reputation if he didn't have one already. And simply, that's not the reputation we want one of our head coaches to have at BGSU.

Headline for the story seems to be "A Drunken A$$ encounters a group of A$$es." The drunk A$$ had more to lose and got what he deserved. Karma is a mean old lady and when the Tiller family encounters her they'll pay for inciting the drunk further and gloating.

Forget the family. If our ass coach would have done this there would have been no problem. It is all on him.

I don't understand how anyone could think a Joe Tiller name drop would make you sound more credible....

I suspect jans hasn't commented because he's lawyered up and looking to sue....no sense in saying anything to anyone if that's the case.
