Was he the associate head coach at Miami or just an assistant?

Six years? If true, IMO that's too long for an unproven assistant.

Wow, interesting hire. As has been mentioned in other threads, the cupboard is bare, really bare. You probably wont be able to grade him until year 3 or 4.

I'm fine with the 6 year deal. You do that because the first recruiting class he will really be able to get after is in 2016, have to at least be able to tell those guys you're under contract for their 4 or 5 years.

I'm excited about this. I feel bad that I wasn't on the Huger bandwagon from the start. Given the fact that he played in Europe for so long I think this might have been a steal. If he had been coaching since the mid 90s like he could have been, I have a feeling he may have been a head coach by now.

I'm pretty sure Huger is the first BG grad to ever be the head coach, which is cool.

Welcome home, Coach Huger!!!

First order of business...talk with the payers and recruits and keep everyone on board. Andrews, Dickerson and Parker are halfway out the door...let's get them back in the fold.

First order of business is to hire a staff . . . followed closesly by team meeting and meeting with players individually . . . followed closesly by using his Twitter account. Recruits are all over twitter and to see a hire who has only sent 12 is concerning, but I'm trying to be optimistic about this.

This is prime recruiting season with AAU and EYBL and XYZ going on each weekend. Multiple kids at one location. Lock em down Coach Huger!

Speaking as an outsider who isn't really close to the program, I think people are simply disappointed that Jans didn't work out. All the excitement surrounding his hire and subsequent good season was swept away rather quickly. This hire feels safe to many people and there are many unknowns. People close to the program I'm sure are very excited to bring up an alum and person with a great history at BG, but I personally feel like this hire was done to appease to donors and to bring in someone who will respect the university, the position and the players. Once we get to hear him speak, I'm sure people will get a bit more excited about things but there's no denying that there's an extremely long road ahead to success.

I just read the news. This looks like a great hire! Energetic, good proven results, and possibly staying power if he does well. Count me in!

Huh. I must have forgotten there's a Miami in Florida as well.

Anyway, this is a fantastic hire. I remember watching Huger during his playing days (I'm old like Grant). Great vision, good ball handling and very, very smart. On top of that, he's a really nice guy who wants to be in BG. His experience and ability will serve the program well. His personality will be very welcoming to the BG community.

Huger will be very good and I trust he will build a program we will all be proud of.

It's great to see his gap-toothed grin in orange and brown again.
