2005 FMB Show Ideas

Post by BGMello04 »

A few days ago the Veterans were sent an email asking us to send in three ideas we had for a halftime show that we would perform next year. I've come up with two ideas and I was wanting to ask some of the Alums/Student Body what they would like to see as a halftime show for my third choice, of course we can't do every show, but I'd be happy to pass the word along. :D

errata: Unfortunately, I can not personally address your show ideas to the directors. I have already sent in my 3 ideas to the AD, and any further discussion will just be for entertainment purposes. I'm sorry if I've offended anyone by asking what the fans would like to see. As a music student, I'm all about pleasing ourselves first, and the audience after. ie. Halloween, Frontiers X4, etc. I just feel that the FMB is the largest student organization on campus with the most exposure and I wouldn't mind seeing what others are interested in seeing us perform. No harm, no foul. :D
I love band! Be good to your horn, it's been good to you hasn't it? ^_^

FUNK!!!

Really, it'd be awesome, provided that the band isn't forced into doing any exceptionally White dances to any of the tunes. But something along the lines of Brick House, Jungle Boogie, Car Wash, Super Freak, and maybe Kung Fu Fighting.

Also, a Chicago or Blood Sweat and Tears show would be pretty awesome, using tunes like 25 or 6 to 4, Does anybody know what time it is?, Make Me Smile for Chicago.

With BST, you could go with More and More, You make me so Very Happy, and close it out with Spinning Wheel.

Thats all for now, adios, Jeff.

Did you not notice the part of the email that stated, "3) Don't confer. Make this an independent project - it will give us a better read on the band's interest (rather than a large group collectively voting and therefore tipping the scales.)"

Sure it's great to have outsiders input but the ideas you present should be your own that you think would be fun. If the players on the field are having fun, it will show and the crowd will have fun, too. Besides, people graduating and not marching that will be in the stands next year still got the email and got to send their ideas as well.

McMetz, I did read the email and I understand what it means to not confer with others. I just thought it would be nice to see what fans of the FMB would like to see put on the field. No harm, no foul. :)

For once, McMetz and I are on the same page.

I believe they have given enough opinions of their own through all the threads during the season. This isn't about what the fans want, it's about what you want to enjoy playing! Until the entire stadium gets up and leaves at halftime, we get booed to all hell, or we aren't allowed to perform a halftime show anymore, I think you should put your ideas before theirs. Especially since you are a music student.

However, if we were a marketing marching band, then yes, you would want to get their opinions. But that is not the case in this situation.

This idea rules! It will be the 30th anniversary, no?

"Rock Candy" by Montrose? "Radar Love" by Golden Earring?

Seriously. This needs to happen!

Yep! That's why I put it up there. I think it would be a great show and it would poke a little humor at ourselves as well.

Why be concerned with the thoughts of a group of people who use half time as a snack and bathroom break? The Falcon Marching Band should be held to the standards and wants of no one else but themselves because at the end of the day they are the ones that must look in the mirror and say, "That was a show that was performed as well as we could perform it."

ugh. chicago. we did that my frosh year. I hate that tape... but, alas, I'm a fan of the city, but not the music group! ;)

That's fantastic that the directors would like your opinions! It shows that they respect your input. What good leadership you all have!

Looking forward to whatever ya'll decide to place on the field next year!

Yes, Delaine, but you have to admit the music as arranged was awesome. after listening to the tape, it's some of my favorite music.

It is nice to get the input from the rank and file. I don't have an issue with posting the question on this forum. I was actually going to post the question in the next couple of months. The feedback from this thread, however, should be kept here.
That is so you may maintain 'face' with sticking to the actual instructions in the email.

If you want to be a drum major, you have to follow the instructions to a 't' (not that I was very good at it, mind you.)

I believe a Poe Ditch Music Festival theme would be awesome. Excellent idea.
