Kent game observations

Post by BleedOrange »

I just got back from the Kent game. Again, I sat in the middle of the Kent section. Overall, this was the very polite crowd. However, there was one exception - one of the loudest, crudest, meanest, harshest, nastiest, coursest old crotch that I had the displeasure of being around. I felt bad for all of us within earshot, but I felt particularly bad for the poor bastard of a husband that was sitting next to her. Whew!

I concerned about John Floyd. I'm wondering if he might have cataracts that block his vision because he seems to see passing lanes that flat out are not there. Two or three times per game, he'll lift his head and deliverable the ball right in the oppositions numbers. Oh well. With his eyesight, he may go on to a long and distinguished career as a MAC official.

I was very proud of our team today. We showed that could hang on to a lead against a good, athletic team on the road, and this bodes well for March. DD took too long to give Floyd relief against Kent's full court pressure that let them back in the game. JR and JA played like men. It was very clear to me that Vandermeer's presence in the middle on defense changes how teams attack us. SV is the first legitimate, game-changing shot block that we've had here since Freddie Bryant. He's a freshman, has a good head, moves well, and has great hands. The program has a huge asset in this kid.

Steven Wright, when aggressive, is impossible to defend and tears defenses to shreds.

Turnovers were better

Post by BGSU33 »

We "only" had 13 turnovers today, and we got a win - and a road win at that. If we take care of the ball....and 13 turnovers is a heckuva lot better than the 20 turnovers we were averaging in the last four games when we lost three of those games....then we'll have a much better chance at getting a win.

Wright is so electric...and Vandermeer is quickly making huge contributions.

Nice post Bleed....I was at the last 5 BG/Kent games there and with the exception of the 78-74 win 2 years ago, that place has been horrible.
Now I wish I had taken the Freaklings to the Kent game...but we were supporting the ladies over at the JAR.

Hey, life is pretty good with this Coach and team.... :D :D Who says we can't win the MAC? We're as good as any team in this conference. Thank you for transferring Ron Lewis. You did us a huge favor.

Took the game in w/ KFlasher and some BG family members this afternoon. Nice win by the Falcons. Thanks for sending the flashes back to the pack. Pretty much neutralizes their tight win on Wednesday night.

Kent really didn't have an answer to slow down Josh today. Time and time again he got himself good square looks at mid to short range jumpers which he nailed. I thought Kent did an adequate job on Reimold, but they really tired on defense and got sloppy with the ball late in the game.

Great win. Welcome back to the East .. it will be nice to have the Falcons in the JAR every year again .. there have been some great games between the teams there over the years.

It was nice that the game was on tv... and cable was out  !! It came back right about 10 mins before i had to go to work. No problem tho, i get 1230 and 88.1 at work so i can just listen to it... WRONG, 88.1 had our womens game on... no problem with that that's cool. However, 1230 had a girls hs basketball game on!!! Come on, i was in bg and couldn't watch or listen to the game  . But hey we won so i guess everything's good.

72, that's the best kept secret. Comes in great, but no one seems to know about it.

Bleed,

Good observations...wound up going to game alone as Joyce was sick with the flu... sat upstairs in a pro-KSU crowd, but NOT rowdy at all... BG people seemed to be scattered thruout the place...was looking for a group to sit with when I got there, but there was only a "smattering" of Orange in the place.... I think Vandermeer makes all the difference in the world to this team...he's very poised for a true freshman...and the new "buzzword"- LONG..definitely fits him...he moves his feet well, rarely just reaches. DD seems to be using him correctly, spelling him every 5-7 minutes or so...Thought DD did an excellent job of "mixing and matching" too. KSU seemed to have trouble defending us and keeping us from the high %tage shots...58% for the game vs. 37% had even Geno Ford talking about how they were surprised they were even IN the game in postgame interview.

Comes in great if you're in a car, or lucky...

It is hardly a dependable radio station in and around BG. I get a staticky version of it on my stereo system with a good power antenna. It comes in fine on my little clock radio w/ no antenna? :( Go figure. I think most people know that the station has the games, but not every stereo seems to be able to pick this station up very well, for whatever reason.

I managed to record all but the first 6 minutes or so of the game. I've watched about half of it. Vandermeer looks like the real deal. His shot blocking abilities will help our perimeter defense. There were at least two occasions where Kent had isolated one of our slower players on the wing. Normally, that guy gets beaten off the dribble and we give up the easy bucket or draw a foul when the help gets there late. Because of Vandermeer's presence under the basket, they rotated the ball back to the top and reset the offense.

The kid's seen significant minutes in what, two games? and already he's altering the offensive approach of the other team.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

It is weird. In my house, not my car, in a boom box, (sounds like Dr. Suess) it comes in as well as any station on the dial.

As a Falcon nesting in the Akron area, I agree. Was at the jar Sat for the women's game for BG/UA. The Zips played a solid game...they're getting better.

The Zips men's team is gonna be a terror to beat the next few years. I miss Dan Hipsher. We go every year BG plays at the JAR. Tell them to turn the heat down a bit.

With a really annoying black-out region in and around Elmore... :-(
