Final assistant is Louis Rowe from FIU. Coaching experience at James Madison and Rider and Huger's former teammate in the Belgium League. Given the staff's connections I anticipate Florida and the metro NYC region as recruiting regions to mine.

According to the database the DBO position paid 28K in 2013 and that was before the Frack donation fully kicked in, but it really shouldn't be about the money as much as the chance to be a part of a D-I staff. It will be interesting to see who's hired.

So we have a completely different strategy here from Jans. No former head coaches, no one with strong JUCO ties. Lets hope these guys can recruit.

So are we ever going to formally ANNOUNCE the coaching staff.....or are we so tied up with the possible transfers that we can't do even that? ](*,)

They have all been filled with the exception of basketball operations. I would guess it won't be official until they all sign contracts, and that may not happen until the "old" assistants finish their contracts. That has been common in the past.

That may be true and it seems to me that their contracts end 6/30.

It hardly makes sense to keep Downey now that the roster is decimated.

We all know who they are so it doesn't really matter, but Buffalo, Bradley and virtually every other school with a new coach has announced their staff, many (including Rick Barnes at Tennessee) within days. Our situation having to drag out until the end of June is madness.

In thinking about this its a little concerning that our staff is essentially 2 guys who have never been coaches at the collegiate level and our head coaches buddy from his playing days.

I think this staff will be very solid recruiters. We would obviously be behind the eight ball so to speak right now, but I think the connections to the basketball world are there for the future. And you have two men who were/are very successful grads of BGSU. That will resonate in certain circumstances. Actually in most circumstances.

Certainly wish Coach Downey the best. One thing to keep in mind about retaining assistant coaches as assistants is they have to WANT to be retained. They have to want to be a part of the new staff. That is a two way street.

DBO's don't recruit off campus but Fisher would be very familiar with the official visit and on campus side of recruiting

NCAA guidelines seem like a pretty uniform framework to work within...as long as you work hard, can effectively communicate and have the ability to build relationships, you should be a good recruiter. It seems like it would be like any sales job ...other than the high pressure one shot close jobs like selling windows...know your product, know your competition, know your prospect and tailor your presentation to them.

I think Fisher will be fine because he learned the business from Jay Wright and Patrick Chambers, two coaches that understand how recruiting works. Hit fits the profile of someone energetic, hungry and relentless.

I'm not one of the WE obviously, as I've only heard of Stacy (and not formally announced IIRC), and now the guy who played with Huger.... don't know who the others are... would be nice to see an announcement soon... Don't know that this affects the current (outgoing?) coaches in any negative way, other than they know that they're not part of the new staff. DO think it would have been prudent to retain at least one of the former guys for continuity sake.

The previous coach got drunk and played grab ass in town.... I'm not sure I want to continue any part of that culture.
