Coach's Comments
"Wes is long and could be defensive stopper. He is athletic and scores the ball in multiple ways. He can play multiple positions and has a great upside. He is beginning to figure out college basketball and once her grows and matures, he is going to be a really good player."

Love long guards, 6'5 2 guards can do damage in the MAC. Great looking stroke and just as important, looks to be able to create his own shot. Looks like a nice pickup!

Sat down to watch the video of the second game. He doesn't jump off the screen at all. Athleticism seems just ok. He is aggressive to the hoop with the ball in his hands but doesn't seem to do much without it. Defensively he looked like he was standing around alot waiting for the play to come to him. When engaged it didnt look like there were many holes in his game. He can shoot, rebound, handle the ball and play d. He just seemed content to be the 3rd option on the team and wait for the play to get to him on both offense and defense.

Sounds like he will have an "adjustment" to D-I basketball and the physical play of the MAC. Hopefully Huger and staff can push the right buttons to get him to his 100% potential. How does he compare to Tisdale as far as hustle and explosiveness? Based on your analysis, I would guess Tisdale would slot ahead of this kid.Globetrotter wrote:Sat down to watch the video of the second game. He doesn't jump off the screen at all. For me, I think explosiveness, aggressiveness and motor seem to be the most important things. When I watch these guys I see myself writing about it the most anyway. I can't remember a ton about Tisdale but if I remember correctly he was much more aggressive and active and really is a great athlete. He isn't a great basketball player and doesn't have a great shot but was much more aggressive and probably a better defender. What I was most surprised about Alcegaire was that his coach said he could be a defensive stopper. I didn't see that at all. He might have the length but he didn't seem interested in help defense or anything. There were times where he was so out of position he was just watching the play unfold. That doesn't scream defensive stopper to me.Hdog wrote:Sounds like he will have an "adjustment" to D-I basketball and the physical play of the MAC. If I was to make a very uninformed conclusion, I would say Alcegaire is a better basketball player but not as good of an athlete as Tisdale and Malik. Malik and Tisdale are very similar to me. Very good athletes who are not very good basketball players. Malik has years to become one. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Malik developed into a solid PG. However, based on HS stats that is pretty far away at this point. I get the feeling if Malik and Tisdale are in at the same time at the 1 and 2 that the offense will struggle but the defense will be very good.

We're all desperate to see offense, and progress in that realm extends to the type of players we recruit in addition to the system employed. Skill and the ability to shoot by guards is vitally important and should be present before they set foot on campus. It's the coaches job to fine tune, motivate and put them in a system where they can thrive. Alcegaire is a great pickup that will have every chance to contribute next year.
