For example...at the epic Appleumpkin Festival held annually in Tecumseh, MI, there were the usual elephant ear and corndog guys, but there were also gyro trucks, sub trucks, might have been a BBQ guy as well. There were a lot of options and none of them looked nearly as sketchy as the propane grills that lloked like trhey came off of somebody's patio that they have at the Doyt
The botom line is that we have to keep pace with what's out there. The reno of the Doyt has to include vastly improved concessions to keep pace with what even minor league sports teams like the Hens and Walleye can offer. Until you're at that point, you need to allow food trucks into the stadium or we'll continue to see issues with code violations and an overall lack of quality.

Smart post. Thanks for sharing.Dayons_Den wrote:It will take someone with some ingenuity to better the food offerings and still make a financial win for the department.

We have food trucks here in Indianapolis. I was also up at Arrowhead Park last week where they had food trucks for lunch and have tried the 6 or 7 food trucks constantly in Toledo. Although food trucks are a great idea it takes anywhere about 2 minutes to get served. It's fine for a lunch crowd with an average size line but there is ABSOLUTELY no way a food truck or even 20 food trucks could accommodate 15,000 fans. At most during a 20 minute halftime one truck could only accommodate 10 fans.
Now Mr Spots constantly cranking out wings or cheese steaks or Myles with deep dish pizza or even Chipotle Chicken Tacos and Chips and Salsa would be more feasible.

Not everyone wants hot food...we have what...four concession stands now? i think you could keep the current stands for drinks and packaged items that don't need temp control like popcorn, peanuts, candy, etc... and have a series of food trucks for hot food and stuff that requres refrigeration...like sushi.

I second bringing in the trucks. How much are we really clearing on Doyt concessions the 5 times a year they're used anyway? It's not like baseball where the facility gets more use. Better food is bound to attract more people and that revenue would likely make up whatever we'd lose anyway.

Hate to suggest this but can we really bring in any food truck we want or are there other contracts with Pizza Hut or other entities to exclusively serve their products limiting our offerings at the venues?

Awesome...my company is consolidating our three offices around Ann Arbor into one over the course of the next year or so...and the new building has a on-site cafeteria food service. Guess who? Yeah...Sodexo. Ugh!

AVI Foodsystems Inc. has been selected as the new concessions company for Falcon athletic events this year. They're responsible for the Huntington Center and Seagate Center along with Youngstown State and Ohio University athletic events.

Those that have experienced Huntington and Seagate Centers or YSU or OU concessions- what are your recollections of the food experience?jpfalcon09 wrote:AVI Foodsystems Inc. has been selected as the new concessions company for Falcon athletic events this year. I have had the concessions at the Convocation Center at OU during womens's basketball games. Not too bad. Typical concession food, though I do think they had brats and some other things on the menu we don't have presently. I have no idea what they look like at OU football. We will have to see what transpires.

Unless we start hosting some significant events beyond the 5-6 home football games a year I really don't see the benefit of upgrading several concession areas. I have seen a semi trailer with the look of a giant grill come in that cooked up Johnsonville Brats at Cedar Point, and advertised significantly for Jville Brats, for big holiday weekends. Now that makes sense. More than 1 permanent food prep area seems pointless and even that will be under used.
I honestly think the fence around the practice field is a more practical investment.
