More trouble...
Re: More trouble...
This kind of crap with our football team is getting very, very old. Year after year we deal with this stuff but over the last year there seems to be a flurry of it. Yeah, yeah, I know it happens at others schools too, and when you have a large roster it's more likely to come up, - blah, blah, blah. Those are excuses, and we're running out of them. I'm not sure the rest of the MAC combined has had the number of issues we've had over the last several months. We're making schools like Toledo look squeaky clean. A that's embarassing in its own right. We're seeing starters getting booted, guys with past issues still getting in trouble, and instead of teammates trying to help their teammates in situations - they're getting involved too. Clearly, we have a real issue with guys having the inability to make good decisions. It's becoming apparently clear that we have a number of guys who either find trouble - or trouble finds them. It makes me wonder if our staff (Babers) addresses these issues with the team?? Of if it falls into the category of "I can't babysit them at all times?"
Whatever the case, let it be known and made clear right now - if you F-up - you CAN be caught and WILL be caught. Further, if you're an athlete, especially on the more popular teams such as football and basketball, the odds of being recognized by a person or identified on camera are increased. If you are 6-foot something, 200-something and athletic, you're gonna stand out. And in this day and age, if you simply step out of your house and do ANYTHING - from driving or walking down the street, to going to the store to buy a gallon of milk, to going out to have a drink - YOU ARE ON CAMERA!!! Cameras are everywhere! And in the rare case if a camera isn't watching you, there's probably a person or people around - and they have cameras too!! So if you grab someone, hit someone, steal something, etc, you are being watched. Period.

Undisciplined on the field = Undisciplined off the field
You could see it starting last year. Selfies on the field, stupid celebrations & penalties, casino gambling (in BG gear) after practices. Kids will be kids, but coaches allow it to keep happening.
I hope I am wrong, but I really think it is a reflection of our coaches's attitudes.

Agreed. I understand that on a team of 100-125 guys, not everyone is going to be perfect. But, it's gotten downright embarrassing & it needs to stop.Flipper wrote:I'm about ready to say "screw it" and find another way to spend my Saturdays and random mid week November evenings. The football team in totality is more embarrassing than Coach Jans. We should be considering another coach's departure soon. Enough is enough!

This is the least excited I have been for a BG football season that I can remember. Hard to get behind this team and coach for me.

Re: More trouble...
An athletic scholarship should come with nothing less than a transparent zero tolerance policy. If you mess up, you have to move, and someone else has to take a chance on you. I can wish....
I blame the head; cut it off.
Keep my season tickets this year, coach. I'm no longer going to help you make BGSU your stepping stone. Doing it right is more important and fruitful in the long run IMO.
You think I'm shifting too much trouble to one person, too bad. Who offers and pulls scholarships?

I really am excited for this season. We get our offensive skill players all back, our entire offensive line, and our star QB returns from injury. Our defense has some great young talent and now they have a defensive coordinator who has taken talent lower than ours and done more with it.kdog27 wrote:This is the least excited I have been for a BG football season that I can remember. I am excited for the season to start. But I'm disappointed ... and maybe even a bit disturbed ... by the recent trouble. Clawson was a real disciplinarian. I don't know how Babers runs the team but I'm willing to bet he's not such a disciplinarian. I am disappointed in all this trouble and I hope either Babers or somebody on his staff puts the foot down on all this player trouble.

Re: More trouble...
Look, we were all pretty excited when Robbie Rhodes decided to transfer to Bowling Green. There is a reason we got a shot at Rhodes, who is potentially the second coming of Randy Moss for all we know. He made some mistakes at Baylor and he needed a second chance, and we were willing to give him that second chance.
I have no problem giving some kids second chances. But, sometimes, kids who make mistakes will keep on making mistakes.
We all had fun last year watching the team tear up the East based in part on some students who got second chances at BGSU. Unfortunately, sometimes, more mistakes happen.
I trust Dino Babers and his staff will treat these incidents with the seriousness that they deserve. And I don't care for the vague insinuations about "our coaches' attitudes" -- as if Dino Babers should have been at that bar, breaking up that fight or whatever it was.
Two years ago, Dino and his staff landed Robbie Rhodes. It was a big coup. At the time nearly all of us thought this was a great idea. And that wasn't unreasonable of us.

Re: More trouble...
It's disappointing to say the least but I'm not going to abandon the many more players who do things right and are proud to represent BGSU in the best ways on and off the field. I doubt Rhodes gets much more than a short suspension or some other internal discipline, but it needs to be communicated to the entire team once camp breaks that there's a zero tolerance policy for nonsense that gets you headlines and mentioned in the police blotter.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.
Re: More trouble...
I agree. I really hope Rhodes isn't gone, but he should receive some sort of discipline. I met him after the spring game and was really excited to see him play for BG. But his decision making has got to be better than this. He blew his shot at Baylor and now he's teetering on doing the same in his second chance at BG. But like you said, this entire team needs to cut the BS. Now. We've had way to much negative news surrounding this program recently. Yes the bad news always outweighs the good when it comes to reporting it. So in that case, no news is often good news. But any more when I jump on this board and go to football I slightly hold my breath.jpfalcon09 wrote:It's disappointing to say the least but I'm not going to abandon the many more players who do things right and are proud to represent BGSU in the best ways on and off the field. Re: More trouble...
I'm not going to stop following the team nor do I expect the coach to be at the bar stopping stupid decisions. Still, at some point the culture the coach has created on the field shows up off of it. I'm not OK with these players being in the news every few weeks, and it's not like these are your typical underage or public intox misdemeanors.
You can only pull the well there are 110 kids so there are bound to be some screw ups line so many times. Of course there are good kids on this team but there are way too many bad ones unfortunately.
I'll be at the game in Nashville. Not sure how much of our team will be left by then

Re: More trouble...
According to some reports on Twitter DB Will Watson has also been charged in the incident at the Bar involving Bryan Thomas on May 29th. He has also been Indef. suspended from the Team. Yikes. And the defense gets thinner.....
Re: More trouble...
A third Bowling Green State University football player has been charged in connection to a May 29 altercation at a downtown bar.
Bowling Green Police Lt. Dan Mancuso said this morning that William Watson, 22, Bowling Green, was issued a citation for a misdemeanor count of assault and released Wednesday. He was not jailed.
The investigation into the incident has already resulted in the arrest of another Falcon football player, Bryan Thomas, 23, BG, for felonious assault. Thomas was subsequently suspended from the team “indefinitely” according to a BGSU Athletics spokesman. Another player, Robert Rhodes, 21, BG, was cited earlier this month for aggravated menacing in connection to the incident.
The multi-part incident was reported at 1:30 a.m. on May 29 at Liquid, 238 N. Main St.
Mancuso said that Watson – who was caught on video surveillance and was one of two previously-unidentified suspects police sought aid in identifying – could be seen in the footage punching an individual, who Mancuso said was a bouncer at the establishment, twice before leaving the bar.
Thomas apparently assaulted the same man, who sustained a broken eye-socket in that fight.
Rhodes reportedly accosted another man in the bar, demanding money from him; the bouncer was reportedly attempting to break up the confrontation when he was assaulted.
Police are continuing to seek the identity of a fourth male reportedly involved in a related altercation that occurred outside the bar that night.
Watson, a senior defensive back with the Falcons, appeared in 12 games last season and made 19 tackles.
A spokesman for BGSU Athletics said this morning that Watson has been indefinitely suspended.

Re: More trouble...
wonder who the 4th player will be? lol
Re: More trouble...
Fourth??? Hell, why stop at just four Falcons, let's keep it rolling. While others schools have been doing updated releases during the offseason on things like future schedules or narrowing down new FieldTurf designs for their stadium, BG is instead churning out suspensions. Maybe we should contact Nike and change our uniform color from Burnt Orange to County Orange.FalconKid wrote:wonder who the 4th player will be? lol
