Congrats to Richaun Holmes. You have made us proud.

I think he will stick as he understands the intensity needed to play at the highest level. Many guys, especially the "one and done" types, don't appear to work as hard to get where they are. I believe Holmes has had to work a little harder than most rookies to get to where he is. This is an advantage.
I think the mental side of pro sports is underestimated. Lots of talented guys flame out because they don't have a good approach to training and the grind that is the NBA. My gut says Richaun has a leg up in this catagory.

I am looking forward to following his career. Good luck Richaun!

BleedOrange wrote:The Sixers are a mess, but what that means for Holmes is ambiguous:

-Holmes won't compete with Okafor or Noel for PT, as they are pure 5s.
-Embiid has new complications with foot.
-Thomas Robinson is a floor-bound position defender and rebounder with a different skill set than Holmes
-Who the hell is Covington?

So, his potential impact as a rookie is better than it might seem.

However, the Sixers will remain miserable unless they sign some very significant shooters and facilitators during free agency. The Sixers' moves have made very little sense. Playing in a chaotic, 20-win NBA environment in not an auspicious way to begin a pro career. Hopefully, Holmes can make the most of his minutes by defending and rebounding consistently while developing his perimeter shot. Holmes is a kid with a good head and a good work ethic. He can make something very positive out of this situation.
Okafor was measured at 6-9 1/2 in stocking feet and is seen as a PF by the 76ers according to today's Philadelphia Enquirer.

Here's a guy who would probably be a first rounder had he receied better coaching and developed his offensive game better his first 3 years. He's should get a lot better now.

This is a great accomplishment for Richaun Holmes.

In addition to his work ethic that may separate him from the younger guys there is also the fact that he played at BG through some lean years and continued to improve his game all the same. This same dedication and work ethic may be necessary in Philly.

Regardless of this honor, being drafted into the NBA, and his future success Richaun is the kind of student-athlete BGSU can proudly promote. Congratulations and best of luck in dream endeavor.

And to think Richaun Holmes split time with Cameron Black during his first 2 years. That tells you all you need to know about the coaching.

Congrats Richaun!!!! Repping BGSU in draft. I had about 4 guys come up to me at work today and asked who he was. Well, if you would take off the osu glasses to look around, ya might know.

I'm so happy for Richaun for getting drafted. I'm bummed as all hell at where he ended up, but an opportunity is an opportunity. Obviously they saw something they liked. Luckily the roster there is mostly garbage so hopefully he'll make it coming out of camp. He'll need to play well in the summer league, I would think.

As this season progressed I thought his offensive game was still too limited for him to be an NBA player, but the way he played in the offseason stuff (and actually measuring taller than listed in the program) got him taken much higher than I thought. I was hoping he'd go to the Cavs (who basically took a VERY similar player a pick ahead of him), but I guess it wasn't meant to be.

As I said on facebook, play your ass off for 2 years in Philly and hopefully he'll get a shot at a real NBA team.

At the combine he held opponents to 21% shooting at the rim..I think that and all the blocks he had while he did it really got him noticed. That and when you added his max vertical to his standing reach(which was 9ft) he covered more space than anyone they measured in the last 3-4 years. At the front of the rim he can go up and cover 12ft....he's gong to alter some shots
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

He will be fine in Philly. NBA rosters are so fluid that half those guys won't be around mid season.

Thomas Robinson is gone already

Holmes has been a standout in the first two summer leagues.
