I wouldn't bet that BG will have a football team in 10 years.
Interesting look at data.

Here's another article on the UAB situation. Sounds like Alabama had a problem with them from the start:

Interesting stuff here. Rumor is that 3 MAC schools were on the phone to CUSA shortly after the UAB news. Akron, Toledo and OU

If your are not moving up to a power 5 conference, I really don't see the point in switching.

I don't believe for a second that a MAC school has contacted Conference USA. It sounds like wishful thinking from Marshall fans -- who I'm sure would rather start rumors than discuss that loss to Western Kentucky last weekend.Globetrotter wrote:Interesting stuff here. (Or the cost of flying the Thundering Herd volleyball team to El Paso.)
Re: OT: Could Akron/Kent Merge?
Excellent post. The great majority of students at MAC schools want to get a degree, not get into to much debt and have some fun. Sports is way down the list.Flipper wrote:Right...that's why people go to college and ring up tens...if not hundreds...of thousands in debt. So they can get any ol' job they can find. Which they aren't really doing right now anyway..the labor participation rate for "millennials" is at a historic low.
Taking a longer view...it's entirely possible that the taxpayers in Ohio are going to tell those of us who are interested in keeping the unique identity of BGSU or UT or Kent State to pound it. They don't care if we like having a football team that plays in front of 15,000 (charitably) people every week. They're not going to pay for it. At that point...some degree of consolidation would be inevitable

Re: OT: Could Akron/Kent Merge?
To say BG won't have a football team is simply hyperbole ... No evidence that that will happen and on top of that you would see a 1AA squad before that. The Kent Akron merger is also a ridiculous statement anyone from Northeast Ohio know that politics won't let that happen
