Although they were disappointing losses, I saw some positives. Getting much better at centering passes around the goal (even from behind the goal), and Matsumoto, Foster, and Falk are really working well together.
Would not surprise me at all if they each get a hat trick this year, maybe in the same game!

Right on, Bill! I think you may be jumping the gun on the single-game multi-hat-tricks, but you're pretty much right on everything else. I noticed Friday night, from about 9 mins. on in the second that our offensive attack around the crease looked a lot better than it had all season. Our passing, especially through the neutral zone, still leaves a bit to be desired, but our young players are really getting the fundamentals nailed deep in the offensifve zone. If we could just get some 2-on-1, 3-on-2 breaks going and learn to follow with an organized crash to the net, we could just win the damn tournament.

I also think that our defense needs to step up a bit more. I have been reluctant to say it, but I think our defenders (especially Siggy II) were skating much better at the beginning of the season than they are now. The team was also playing much better perimeter defense in the first half of the season, too. I remeber the weekend we played Michigan, at least for the first period on Friday (at Yost) and all of Saturday (at home), they were getting down and stopping shots like a bunch of animals. I didn't notice a whole lot of defenders even getting down to thei knees this past weekend. I think this is something that we can recover from as we move into the post-season this year, but its going to take some extra coaching from Pooch.

Anyhow, I've been itching to get all of that technical stuff off of my chest since I got home from Columbus Saturday afternoon.

I think we're going to dominate this weekend, and two players will be clutch in beating the Western forecheck - Matsumoto and Bru. Mark my words.

Very tough to swallow...but if OSU is in the top 10, and BG lost 3-2 twice on the Buckeye ice, How close are the Falcons in getting back to the elite level?

This team has proven time and time they refuse to quit....no matter what the situation. I'll take that kinda attitude any day.

Nobody could possibly have watched those two games without being impressed with the effort of our guys...they just won't quit.

I saw four keys to the series:

1. OSU's penalty kill unit just plain KICKS BUTT! They agressively denied passing lanes, and closed the gap immediately everytime we touched the puck...even when down 3 on 5, they SMOKED us.

2. OSU's center-ice defensive play was OUTSTANDING. It looked to me as if they knew our break-out patterns better than we did. This was especially noticable early in Friday's game...they were well prepared for us. This is a bad news-good news situation...at least it shows opponents are taking us seriously enough to scout us throughly.

3. Caruso played over his head. The glove save he made at about the 19:00 mark of the 3rd period Friday (when we had an extra attacker) was AWESOME, and cost us a point for sure...maybe more.

4. Shegos blows rancid canal water. From the 'ticky-tack' obstruction-holding call he made against Rogo (on the first shift of Friday's game), to the waved-off goal later that night. From his failure to recognize the 'not-so-subtle' high-slot 'pick' that OSU used all weekend, to his gutless neglect in not giving a major penalty on the retalatory charge to Siggy. He's a disgrace to the game, but that's not news...and he's still better than Aaron or Wilkins.

Totally agree with you, Freddie. Still, I think there are some very constructive things that we can do over the next few weeks that can set us up for a serious shot at winning the Super Six, even if we end up playing Michigan. We proved in Yost earlier this year (at least in the first period) that we can beat the best teams in the country. So far, we've been doing well against great teams like OSU or Michigan for a period, period and a half consistently. If we can manage to play consistently for 3 FULL periods, we would be a great team, and one of the best in the country, with the personnel that we have now. With how young we are and how well our Freshman are playing, I think we are going to do big things the remainder of the year. I'm not going to call an appearance in the NCAA tourney, but I think we have a great shot at it. This past weekend, I think, will prove to be a major wake up call for the team and a turning point in the season.
