Don't roll your eyes at me, young man....
Nike doesn't market products, they market an image. In essence they're marketing access to a certain "active" lifestyle. People don't really sell products any more, they sell the life that the shoes or whatever represent.
People don't buy products any more...they buy ego gratification.

Who's rolling their eyes are you? I follow what you are saying and it's true, but that image they market is still directed at the elite athlete.Flipper wrote:Don't roll your eyes at me, young man....

Flipper is 100% correct. Nike no longer markets their product, they use their product to market Nike.
“For years, we thought of ourselves as a production-oriented company, meaning we put all our emphasis on designing and manufacturing the product. But now we understand that the most important thing we do is market the product. We’ve come around to saying that Nike is a marketing oriented company, and the product if our most important marketing tool.”—Phil Knight, former CEO of Nike

Certainly, Nike tests its ads before they run. Everything sold and marketed is heavily tested. How many products are run in test markets before they roll out to the public and fail. The answer? Most of them.Germainefitch1 wrote:Nike would not run commercials that its audience did not like. Do you understand how much a commercial has to go through before it reaches the air?
The fact that ads can be heavily tested and still stink just shows you how hard it is to tell what people like.

Read this book....it influences a lot of my thinking as a consumer and a person who sells.

Oh. Jeff Bryden, I had him years back as well. I remember He gave me a bad grade on something my brother helped me thoroughly with when at the time my brother was a marketing big wig at Purina. He was the only B I received my last 3 years of college.
The entire point of the commercial would be to have you remember the commercial and talk about it. I disliked the commercial initially but after seeing it several times it gets my adrenaline going. Clearly an entire intended audience will not endorse every commercial, but I would imagine a marketing giant like Nike is almost sure that positive results will come out of every action they take.

That sounds nauseating. I'll stick to Dan Brown, thanksFlipper wrote:Read this book....it influences a lot of my thinking as a consumer and a person who sells.

Flipper, I think you're funny and all, but I'm not sure how well you really "sell." Are you just putting us on now?Flipper wrote:Read this book....it influences a lot of my thinking as a consumer and a person who sells.
