Most of the time, Elton Alexander is clueless as the MAC beat writer. But, he does this pretty well on this one.

Not a bad write up. He mentioned Johnson only playing one quarter. That is not true but when I re-watched that game (which was painful), it surprised me a little. I think he sustained the hip injury toward the end of the first half but still played the entire game. I was certain that sack where he was trying to pull away from a leg tackle happened later but it was in the first half. I'm pretty sure that was the play that hurt him but I'm not certain.
Oh well, minor point. Otherwise a decent article.

I was at the WKU game (regretfully) and Johnson got hurt late in the third quarter but stuck it out for the remainder of the game. Either way, Alexander should've checked out the box score of that game to fact check considering MJ threw two TD passes in the 3rd quarter, before getting hurt.Siborg wrote:Not a bad write up. Decent write-up, nothing really new since the defense is obviously learning a new scheme and will need all the time they can get.

Alexander is the one who wrote BG was going to be a home cupcake for Akron after Matty J got hurt. He picked Akron and CMU to play for the title last year. He loves Miami and Ohio U but seems to have a thing against BG more often than not.

He should know better that the word cupcake and Akron can only apply to the Zips...Falconfreak90 wrote:Alexander is the one who wrote BG was going to be a home cupcake for Akron after Matty J got hurt. Refreshing to even get a write up in a paper outside the BG / Toledo area. I would guess the Plain Dealer is the only paper in the state to do a write up on each MAC school.
The Enquirer and Dayton Daily will sometimes sneak a Miami story in. Forget seeing another MAC school mentioned, outside box scores.
And of course the Dispatch....
At least we have a 1 writer who gives an opinion on the MAC.

Re: BG preview in Cleveland PD...
The PD only chooses to care because of Akron/Kent and the large number of MAC alumni within Cleveland proper. Outside of a few days a couple weeks on 92.3 in Cleveland which spent some time going over the MAC, the conference is wholly ignored, more so now that O$U won the playoff.Falcon137 wrote:Refreshing to even get a write up in a paper outside the BG / Toledo area. So true. Every newspaper and sports station from Cleveland to Canton covers so much o$u stuff it's sickening...while ignoring every other school and conference altogether.jpfalcon09 wrote:The PD only chooses to care because of Akron/Kent and the large number of MAC alumni within Cleveland proper. I am shocked about how much OU stuff gets in their paper (even sports).Falcon137 wrote:And of course the Dispatch....

They clearly are committed to covering Ohio as a sort-of local team. It will be interesting to see if that continues given the staff cuts that seem imminent.transfer2BGSU wrote:I am shocked about how much OU stuff gets in their paper (even sports).Falcon137 wrote:And of course the Dispatch....

Re: BG preview in Cleveland PD...
FWIW,
I feel the write up the PD had on Miami went into greater depth than the BG article did...even posted some outstanding players etc., vastly improved recruiting under Martin etc.
That said, I'm just happy to see a team by team breakdown, as opposed to a one size includes all type article. Wonder if they'll just cover the OHIO MAC teams, which wouldn't be all bad either, since the school in Columbus is playing TWO W. Div. teams from out of state who will get plenty of pub. When those games get played.
