Weather for Memphis game
Weather for Memphis game
Just took a look at the extended forecast for Bowling Green for the week. The 10-day forecast looks great except for one day....Saturday!
Haven't we dealt with enough weather so far? We only have one damn home game in the first five weeks and not even Mother Nature is gonna cut us any slack. Hopefully the forecast changes and improves but if not, we could be in store for more rain and another possible delay.
GO BG!!!

A 10 day forecast is ...at best...an educated guess. I wouldn't start worrying about it until Weds at the earliest.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Weather for Memphis game
Plus, field turf has neutralized the weather factor a bit at our place. You can have rain and still get a "clean" game that doesn't have much of an impact. It takes a lot of heavy rain to become a factor now days.

Re: Weather for Memphis game
AccuWeather calling for upper 70s with just a slight chance for rain. I'll take that.
Re: Weather for Memphis game
The comment about the weather wasn't directed at all towards the turf, it's about getting people to come, and stay, at the game. Like it or not, the weather has a lot to do with our attendance. And being this is our only home game in the first five weeks of the season (which sucks), it would be great to have a nice day. Normally we have a solid turn out for our home openers. Even if we're playing an FCS team, our opener is usually decently attended. But add in rain or the mere threat and it drastically decreases our turnout.Rollo83 wrote:Plus, field turf has neutralized the weather factor a bit at our place. Forecast still showing mid-70s with a 50 to 60% chance of rain...

Re: Weather for Memphis game
Weather could bring a very interesting angle into an already interesting matchup. Should it rain then ball security really becomes valuable. Memphis, under Fuente, has done a good job of winning the turnover battle. We actually lost that battle last week so I know ball security is being preached this week.
I really wish I could come to the game. I more than spent my September travel budget last week in Kansas. The stadium pics look nice and hard to beat football in the 70's. Pack the place & show the rest of the country that the G5 still has a presence.

Welcome to the Nest tigerfanbritt! You have a very, very good team back this year. I watched some of that destruction of Kansas and thought "Our D needs to keep improving as this is the best O we will face all year". Fuente has done an excellent job building your program and this promises to be one of thee best games of the weekend. I believe your QB has a great chance to be a player at the next level.

Thanks for the kind words! Fuente has been a Godsend in Memphis. He took over our program when we were absolutely the worst team in college football. In fact, Justin started his career at Memphis with a home loss to UT Martin (D2).
We have you guys, Cincy, and OIe Miss the next 3 weeks. I am hoping our guys show up this week and not peek ahead to Cincy & Ole Miss. We are not talented enough to overlook anyone or show up without our A game.
I caught your game on TV and was very impressed with your QB & receiving corps. We replaced 8 starters from last years 10 win squad & this game will be the first true test of this young squad.
Hopefully the rain holds off and we get to see each others best on Saturday. I expect a great contest. No shame for either program in losing this one.

Re: Weather for Memphis game
Have to say, BGSU has a good chance right now of having each of their first 3 games being delayed by lightning/thunderstorms. That's got to be a record if it comes to pass.
If you're coming out to the game, be prepared for the possibility that you might be there for 4, 5 hours...not including the pregame tailgate.
I won't even get on the stump over how our fans are a bunch of wusses when it comes to weather...we'd be here all night.

The forecast has held firm the entire week, from 10 days out to 4 days before kickoff. It's now calling for 80% thunderstorms. Wonderful. By the time we play our second home game we could be wearing coats.

Here's a debate piece...BGSU33 wrote:The forecast has held firm the entire week, from 10 days out to 4 days before kickoff. It's now calling for 80% thunderstorms. Wonderful. By the time we play our second home game we could be wearing coats.
Say BG had been able to keep their game against the FCS opponent for Week 1 and played home instead of playing at Tennessee. The weather on September 5th was about 94 degrees and blazing hot, provided BG didn't get hit by any sudden storms in the time frame of the game, which would've definitely been a possibility.
I don't know if in 10 years I've been to a BG game where the heat was oppressive enough to keep fans away, but IMO that scenario probably would have played out, especially against a crappy FCS opponent.
And yes, the game on October 10th could yield bad weather. We've had several washouts in recent years, games against Massachusetts and Miami immediately come to mind. Given the track record of the past decade though, the odds are in your favor until you get past Halloween. We had good weather for every October game at the Doyt from 2005-2009, and aside from the overly rainy games aforementioned, the very recent track record has been good too. I can't really remember a time where I had to truly bundle up for an October game at the Doyt. November on the other hand...yikes...we've had some bone chillingly nasty games, like Toledo in 05, Buffalo in 08, WMU in 10, and Ohio in 13.

I'll be there rain or shine, hot or cold. But a lot of students and casual fans won't be unless the weather is good, or at least decent, which is why I always hope for good weather.bgsufalcon24 wrote:Here's a debate piece...BGSU33 wrote:The forecast has held firm the entire week, from 10 days out to 4 days before kickoff. Re: Weather for Memphis game
The UMass game was actually semi lucky. The actual game stayed dry if memory serves correct, but that was the game, 2 or 3 hours before kick, the field was literally underwater, that was wild. That Miami game was brutal, low 40s a driving rain for 3 hours and wind whipping. That was by far the worst game for me, I'm fine with snow and cold, but the worst is when it's 40 and pouring.bgsufalcon24 wrote:Here's a debate piece...BGSU33 wrote:The forecast has held firm the entire week, from 10 days out to 4 days before kickoff. Buffalo in 08 was the bizarre, Friday night 5 o'clock kick where the snow and wind hit.
Knock on wood, the weather looks decent Saturday.
Rain from 1am-6am then clearing up with only a 40% chance of showers in the afternoon.

I can't control the weather...so i don't worry about it. I have little control over attendance...and the University obviously doesn't care about it...so i don't worry about that either.
