Memphis opens as a 4-point favorite over BG
Memphis opens as a 4-point favorite over BG
This marks just the second time in the last four years that BG is a home dog. The only other time from 2012-2015 that BG was a home dog was last year vs Indiana.
GO BG!!!

And we know how that game ended. Roll Along.

Were we favorites vs Kent State in 2012?

Memphis actually opened at 6.5, the line quickly moved to 3. It will be interesting to see what the over / under is.

If anyone has extra tickets they're not going to be using, let me know. I am looking for two tickets.
I'd rather buy from the people here at AZZ first if possible.

Plain and simple, there needs to be a huge home crowd for this game to amp up the energy level. I'm hoping against hope the students and residents come out to support the team rather than sit at home and watch Ohio State blow out NIU.

I agreed. But as was mentioned in another thread, hopefully the forecast changes. Still calling for 50% thunderstorms and OSU is playing at the same time. Like it or not, those are two big strikes against us having a good crowd. Sucks, but it's true.jpfalcon09 wrote:Plain and simple, there needs to be a huge home crowd for this game to amp up the energy level. Rain is more important than the O$U game. Visiting team fans and students always drive big attendance games. There will be between 12-15,000 or so fans buying tickets for this game. Hopefully we see a full student section numbering 5,000, it usually is for the first home game. If Memphis brings 1,000 or so fans (I have no idea how their fans travel) there will be a good crowd.BGSU33 wrote:I agreed. But as was mentioned in another thread, hopefully the forecast changes. I'm guessing 20-21,000. More depending on how Memphis travels.

Awesome night of college football in northwest Ohio with Memphis/BG at 3:00 and Iowa State/Toledo at 8:00pm. Might be worth checking out both games.Falcon137 wrote:Rain is more important than the O$U game. Visiting team fans and students always drive big attendance games. Attending boosts Toledo's attendance figures but also provides the opportunity to boo them. What's a loyal Falcon fan to do?jpfalcon09 wrote: Awesome night of college football in northwest Ohio with Memphis/BG at 3:00 and Iowa State/Toledo at 8:00pm. Might be worth checking out both games.
They get a P5 opponent whose own head coach was open about how unseriously his team took them and a second P5 opponent at home that's less talented than they are. Now that's a schedule!

Re: Memphis opens as a 4-point favorite over BG
Curious that BG would decide to go head to head against Ohio State in terms of start time. That's something that BG tried to avoid like the plague for most of the Brandon and Clawson years.
That being said, middle afternoon is the best possible time to play IMO. It's late enough to have decent tailgating and late enough for the student population, it's early enough for the townsfolk who maybe don't have the stomach for a night game, and it's perfect for the out of towners who can get to BG and then back within the same day conveniently (for them noon might be too early and a night game too late).
It's the proverbial goldilocks scenario. Yeah OSU and the weather are against us, but it's a strong opponent and we're playing at the time that is most convenient for the majority of fans. Let's see how it shakes out. I'm expecting well north of 20k for this game given that we just knocked off a P5 opponent the previous week and it's the home opening game. Those are two big positives.
