I seem to recall a couple of passes where it looked as if he just didn't run the route correctly, MJ outhit on the money and Rhides was no where to be found. However I can't believe this guy forgot how to catch a football. The times I've seen him in scrimmages he has the yards after catch potential. I understand rating recruits is not a science but the guy was 4 stars. So what gives here?
I was told at the Buffalo game from anonymous sources (don't want to get specific) that Robbie has had a terrible attitude this season regarding him believing he's better than other receivers on the team. There's also been a lot of friction between he and Matty J about him not learning the plays and them being not on the same page, again having to do with his poor attitude and inability to grasp the offense.
In his defense, he has been hobbled by some nagging injuries this season, but I'll be extremely shocked if he plays again this season. Him not even seeing the field when the second team got in against UMass should tell you the story.
Damn shame if that is the case. All of our WRs seem to be very unselfish. Lewis is getting the numbers, but all of these guys are what make our offense tick. You cannot stop all of them.
Burbrink is the only WR we lose next year (that plays significant minutes). If Lewis keeps this up, I wonder if he even sticks around senior year. Crazy to think about.
Point being, Rhodes has 2 years after this season. Here's hoping he can put his ego aside and get to work.

Babers made an interesting comment today regarding his WRs settling into their roles and not being selfish. I can't help but think this is what's holding Robbie back. As you said, it's a damn shame if he wastes a year of eligibility because of it.
Thanks for that insight. It makes sense. We have enough talented receivers that the coaching Staff certainly does not have to play one with an attitude. It is a shame because all of our receivers bring something unique to this offense and I think Rhodes would too. If a poor attitude is indeed the reason for Rhodes' lack of playing time that can be corrected if he chooses to do so. I hope he can realize what his contribution can be and how much fun it is to be a part of something bigger than just yourself. Based upon my observations of MJ's leadership ability I'm sure he has no tolerance for that selfish behavior.
First off, Rhodes is NOT the best WR on this team. And from what he's shown in the little he's been out there, I'd say he's the 5th best WR at best on this team - right now. When he's been targeted his head isn't even turned around to see the ball coming, he ran the wrong routes multiple times, he looks extremely hesitant when he's returned kicks, and I was surprised to see isn't that fast at all. And on one of the two catches he does have, he was run down from behind and fumbled the ball (Burbrink recovered it). That said, I do think he has potential and I do hope to see him do what he needs to do to become a bigger part of this team. His could have a very bright future at BG. The key word being "could."
Speaking of WR's, anyone else see some Mark Szlachcic in Gehrig Dieter? Tall, lanky WR who almost always catches the ball. The more I watch Dieter, the more he resembles Szlachcic.
And I love our WR corps....very unselfish. If RR cannot grasp the team concept, that is a problem.

Dieter kind of reminds me of Kurt Gerling.
I can see that. KG had hands of glue and was tough as nails. He isn't as tall as Mark or Gehrig.

That's a great comparison, Freak. Very similar in almost all respects, aside from the sweet mustache #84 sported
Good to see Robbie get some PT, Wednesday. They targeted him deep a few times and he threw the key block on Greene's long TD run. Lots of negative rumors about him. I've personally heard nothing but good things about him from those in and close to the program.
Looks like he will have an impact down the strench.

Saw him out there and thought he gave us some good minutes, even though the game was mostly sewn up by the time he got out there.
It's a start, for sure.
I look for him to get a lot more reps next season.
