OMFG...you are never going to let this go are you? We lost to Memphis....there is nothing you can point to from week one that influenced week 3. We could have played the Saints of Siena Heights college or the Green Bay Packers in week one...we'd still be where we are but we'd be a million bucks poorer.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Nothing but a lost game vs. a win. 2-0 vs. 1-1. Tentative confidence vs. roaring enthusiasm with a G5 New Year's bowl slot still in play.

But that's stupidly pointless, or pathetically stupid, or whatever combination of words are now being deployed to nuke civil debate around here.

I don't think anybody has a problem with civil debate. But, this has become more than beating the dead horse. This horse was buried, exhumed, risen from the dead, re-killed, and then beaten.

You make a lot of assumptions and just jump to them being for sure had BG played Owens Community College.

Also it's not like Toledo just fell into 7-0. They earned it, no one gave it to them. They beat Arkansas in their home stadium. Without looking they were probably just as big of underdogs as BG was in Tennessee.

It matters because that easily, easily could have been BG getting all the attention an undefeated stretch
Since all of this is hypothetical and getting silly, I'll join in: If the Falcons hadn't opened against Tennessee and learned some lessons about how to play good football, Maryland would have been much closer (if not a loss; it was back and forth until the fourth quarter) and Memphis might have beaten us pretty badly on our own field. The Purdue game might also have gone the other way, but even if it didn't: Would the Falcons be nationally ranked? No. Of course not. Whether or not we played Tennessee this season, TSUN would still be getting this national attention right now and we still wouldn't be.

My take is this: The fact that the Falcons toughed it out in that opener in Nashville makes it more likely that our Falcons will prevail against TSUN. This team is more tested than it otherwise would have been.

Let's beat TSUN twice (three times if they want to put Bowling Green in a bowl game with them) and stop debating that school in Tennessee.

Do you honestly think that the team played with any less enthusiasm during the home opener because they lost in week one? Do you really think that ? If that's truly the case, they're far too mentally fragile to be thought of as a threat to go bowling...

So let's redo the schedule and here it is....

Game 1 vs. South Carolina State BG Victory (1-0)
Game 2 vs. Maryland BG Victory (2-0)
Game 3 vs. Memphis BG Loss (2-1)
Game 4 vs. Purdue BG Victory (3-1)
Game 5 vs. Buffalo BG Victory (4-1)
Game 6 vs. UMass BG Victory (5-1)
Game 7 vs. Akron BG Victory (6-1)
Game 8 vs. Kent State BG Victory (7-1)

We weren't going to get ranked after beating an FCS squad in week 1
We might have gotten some votes in Week 2 with a good showing against Maryland
We receive no votes after Week 3 and losing to Memphis. Bye-bye New Years Day Access Bowl :smt006
We receive some votes after beating Purdue in Week 4 (maybe not)
Then we start beating MAC teams and that is not going to get us ranked with a loss.

And we're $1.5-to-$2 million dollars lighter in the athletic department budget.

I read a lot of hype about BGSU on the Internet (Thanks Al Gore!) and saw Roger Lewis TWICE in one segment last Saturday night/Sunday morning on ESPN. We're getting good publicity.
