Coaching Carousel
Re: Coaching Carousel
Figured this would be the thread to add this....
Chris Kingston has been mentioned as a candidate for the UCF athletic director opening. Kingston is a UCF alum.

Brian Harsin, Justin Fuentes, Matt Rhule, Tom Herman, Matt Campbell, Babers, & PJ Fleck are probably the top candidates if people are looking for head coach experience. Kirby Smart, Brent Venables, DJ Durkin, Scott Frost, and Luke Fickell probably top the list as top assistants for a head coaching gig.
The jobs listed doesn't account for all the backfill that will take place if someone like Rich Rodriguez wants to get back to the east coach or Jim Mora wants back in the NFL. Going to be a lot of interim vs interim matchups in bowl games this year.
Re: Coaching Carousel
Kingston's next move shouldn't be to another Group of 5 institution. We've got to see how Huger plays out (hopefully well) and there's still the matter of the stadium. Word has it Kingston, Mazey and some board members have been traveling around to different sites (South Alabama being one) checking things out and gathering ideas.

Re: Coaching Carousel
There was an article today on CBS Sports talking about Babers being a fit for the Hurricanes. I can't see him going there as Miami may want to go with a coach with a bit more of a track record, but it's safe to assume that Dino's time at BGSU is slowly coming to an end.

Re: Coaching Carousel
We'll see. Babers doesn't seem like the kind of guy to take on a rebuild. He walked into a stacked EIU and BG. He does seem like a great fit at Miami with all the talent they have returning and Kaaya having 2 more years. He could also sell tickets in S. Florida with his offense. I see him at a place like Miami or so than a Purdue, Illinois, Minnesota type school.jpfalcon09 wrote:There was an article today on CBS Sports talking about Babers being a fit for the Hurricanes. 1 thing is clear, he will leave the program in as good or better shape, if / when he decides to leave.

Agreed, if/when he does leave, I hope that Kingston hires a coach that continues the style of offense.Falcon137 wrote:We'll see. Babers doesn't seem like the kind of guy to take on a rebuild. Re: Coaching Carousel
Unless he gets the Miami or Baylor jobs I can really see him coming back, especially in light of the recent MAC-to-tough-place-to-win implosions.jpfalcon09 wrote:There was an article today on CBS Sports talking about Babers being a fit for the Hurricanes. Re: Coaching Carousel
I think the Pete Lembo example at Ball State in relevant here. You strike while you're hot because you never know if those opportunities will come again. This might be Babers' optimal year to leave.
Even if MJ doesn't come back next year, I think Knapke could step in and still run this offense at very high level because he'll still have a lot of talent around him. So not much of a drop off next year.
But 2017 is probably a different story. It will be time to reload a little. If Dino is still here in 2017, he might have to wait a few years for the window to open again.

I'm sure Hawaii's AD will reach out to Babers but Hawaii is a bad job. They openly have discussed killing the program in recent years. The facilities are way out of date and there seems to be little support for the program. Babers should answer the call from the AD, wish him all the best, and continue on with the match to the MAC championship.

That would be my dream coaching job in all of division 1.

Re: Coaching Carousel
So there was recently a post(s) talking about Frank Solich. That guy has a proven track record, won the East 3 times in mid 2000's. Clearly had success as a MAC coach, more so than PJ Fleck, but he never left... Hes going to retire as OU's coach..prob this year... Why cant Babers hang around for a bit too. Take the good stuff that Clawson left, build it up even more and run the MAC for a few years?

Re: Coaching Carousel
Solich was older when he took the OU job. he'd already been burned at a "big school" and he has deep roots in Ohio. None of that applies to Babers...except maybe the age thing. Babers is "only" 54....that may make him more anxious to get paid So...yeah, if someone were to waive a few million at Dino to leave, I suspect he would. We're near the bottom in terms of HC pay..., say he goes to a school like Maryland or Indiana that might give him a 4/5 year deal worth something like six or eight million. Even if he fails there, he could get a staff job at a BCS school that pays almost as much as he makes here now.
