I don't think anyone here can take anything away from Ashland's basketball team. They are talented and played really well. Neither do I see any posts here that indicates panic mode from anyone, only discussion of various viewpoints from Falcon fans concerning our current women's basketball team. I believe that's what this blog is for. The sky pretty much fell on the team last year, and we're all hoping our team will grow together as they have in previous years. No one here is spelling doom and condemnation for a team we've grown to love and support. Regardless of how our season turns out, we're all hoping that our student athletes have a positive and memorable experience as they go through their college years. Falcons, we're looking forward to seeing you again tomorrow and Sunday! GO FALCONS!!!

I agree with much of what you said, & I'm fine with people criticizing the team when it is due & giving their thoughts. However, I felt there were quite a few messages in this thread that questioned the coaching staff's decisions. "Why didn't this kid play?" "Coach Roos needs to do this" "Coach Roos needs to tell ___ (name of player) to do this" etc. Since she became head coach, the Falcons have a record of 61-18 when fewer than four people are out with season-ending injuries. They were 24-11 in her first year, 30-5 in her second and 7-2 last year before the injuries hit. The coaches know way more about basketball than nearly all of us, and they are in practice every day (and we are not). I'm going to give Coach Roos and her staff the benefit of the doubt and assume that they know what they are doing. With 13 players on the active roster (as opposed to 7, 8 or 9 at various times last year), not everyone is going to play in every game.

(Also, I did see a 'panic' mode post over in the men's basketball section, & maybe that's what my original post was reacting to. My short-term memory is not what it used to be)

Not a problem, threestooges. We, as fans, are in this boat together. As I told another fan earlier today, I prefer to be more "analytical" than "critical". I have no desire or reason to come down hard on our players or our coaches. However, I used to umpire, so I just call'em like I see'um. When we're up in the stands watching the game play out, there is no pressure on us, unlike the coaching staff, to make decisions in an alotted time frame. We simply watch. The coaching staff, however, although they have a game plan, are subject to making hard decisions in high-pressure situations, all within a few seconds' time. Do fans see things in their leisure that coaches don't see under pressure? Perhaps. Our coaches get paid well to make those decisions, and they do a good job of it. They have a hard job, and they deserve all the respect in the world. And we're all human, too. We're pulling hard for you, Falcons!!! GO GET'EM!!!!
