Re: BG-UT game thread
Just embarrassing, total meltdown from the team to start the game and they never recovered. Five turnovers is inexcusable. Poor execution on both sides of the ball. I guess we'll see if this turns into a repeat of last year or not.
Also, all the Matt Johnson hype can go away as he made a ton of poor decisions tonight and really hurt the team in key moments.
I honestly don't care who they play in the MACC because this damn monkey is still on their back.

Re: BG-UT game thread
We made stupid mistakes and that was our undoing. We're falling into that "every pass is a deep sideline route" cycle we saw last year when the season blew up. Hopefully, we'll snap out of that s**t.

Re: BG-UT game thread
Toledo ran the ball down right at us. They forced 4 of the 5 turnovers we had on sacks, hits, strips and a pick. They also caused another fumble that would have been a 6th turnover but it bounced out of bounds. The first turnover we had was on us, I'll give us that, that was all on us. But the rest were because UT forced them. They had our passing game all out of rhythm and we never looked comfortable. No team did that to us this year, we looked confused and were forced to scramble. They bitched slapped us in the first quarter and built a 20-0 lead and never looked back. Yes, we may have made some mistakes in addition to all of that, but make no "mistake" about it, Toledo whipped our ass tonight. They earned it any which way you cut it and we can make all the damn excuses we want as to why it happened but that's all they are. Excuses. Toledo got it done. We didn't. Period.Flipper wrote:No... we made mistakes and that was our undoing.

Re: BG-UT game thread
I get the impression that the team does not see this as a special game or rivalry game like the fans. It seemed there was little energy or focus to start the game. The only thing that seemed to get the team going was the fact they were being dominated in nearly every aspect of the game early. Unfortunately they demonstrated and inability to recover from their poor start. To play so poorly against a rival is disgusting after failing to beat them in the previous 5 attempts.
The most unfortunate things are (1) losing an opportunity to put a rival out of the MACC and (2) giving so many gifts (aka turnovers) to an opponent that is simply, very beatable.

BS... the first int was a pinball off a wr...the fumbles came from guys not taking care of the ball. The "strips" were the kind of plays that you see when guys are either trying to hard to turn a five yard gain into ten or sheer carelessness. Either way..they were the result of our mental lapses more than what UT did.

NIU was TU's wake up call and TU was our wake up call. BG was too overconfident but the MACC can be ours.
I'm disappointed we looked like we gave up but I'm more disappointed to read some skirt post about being someone's bitch. Pathetic representation on a public board.

Very disappointing. 5 turnovers. Too many penalties. Inconsistent tackling. Great crowd. Very disappointed in our Falcons. Beat Ball State!

Was at the game, sat near the 50 yd line on the East side. TSUN had a ton of energy on their sideline in the first half, but that deflated quickly in the 3rd quarter...until the fumble.
There is definitely a mental block with this team. Unlike many on this board, I was hoping Ohio and Buffalo would hang around so this game would have MAC East implications. Instead, this team looked like they were reading the papers all week while TSUN had something to play for.
I definitely want TSUN in the MACC. We should want to play against the best team, not the one that is the easiest path to the title. Right now, that looks like TSUN.
I was at the MACC in 2013 when we won it against 12-0 NIU, and the atmosphere was amazing. No one was walking around like we were afraid of NIU.
Even if we beat TSUN in the MACC, and right now that's a huge if, this team will still be remembered as the one that couldn't break the streak at home, with a hot crowd and strong student section on a Tuesday night in November. That was definitely one of the best attended weeknight MACtion games in a while. I was impressed with the attendance.

Yeah that whole submissive "we're your bitch" thing is creepy. At least get a carton of smokes before you give it up like thatCork wrote:NIU was TU's wake up call and TU was our wake up call. BG was too overconfident but the MACC can be ours.

THIS. Discipline is horrible. I go back to the day Babers was introduced as coach and met our players who were in suit and tie and told them they were too formal and to lighten up/relax. That's downright ridiculous. They weren't being too formal, Coach Babers, they had respect and discipline, something clearly missing over your tenure. Absolutely no reason to be trash-talking before the game and damn near starting a fight.falcon83 wrote:they said on TV that two of our players were talking trash before the game and almost started a fight. They thought they could just appear on the field and win. This is a hard lesson that I hope they learn. you must come ready to play, especially against your nemesis. I hope we get them in Detroit but I hope they have learned something. They are not as good as they thought they were. They HAVE to want it and play like they want it. Since Babers has become coach, there has been no discipline. It is time they do things right. A Clawson team would never act like these guys do.

I agree with you on the turnovers but I would point out that both sides of the line were dominated early which to me means the sense of urgency didn't kick in early. I would have to admit my boiling frustration with this game over recent years has boiled over.Flipper wrote:BS... the first int was a pinball off a wr...the fumbles came from guys not taking care of the ball. I couldn't agree more... I hope this bump in the road doesn't become a roadblock-win out and win it all...Lord_Byron wrote:Looking out my office window, and damned if I don't see the sun coming up.

This. The strips were the same crap that happens every game. Guys grabbing at the ball while the ball carrier is trying to eek out extra yardage. Every defender does it and every ball carrier has to know its there. We had only 6 turnovers on the season prior to yesterday, you think that was the first time defenders were grabbing or poking the ball? No, we got careless with it throughout the entire game and UT took advantage of our sloppiness.Flipper wrote:BS... the first int was a pinball off a wr...the fumbles came from guys not taking care of the ball. I'll give them credit for being the better team yesterday, but I'll add that isn't saying all that much. If you wanna fellate our opponents, 33, go ahead but I won't. They won because they showed up to play in the first quarter and we didn't. And we were careless with the football the entire evening.
Their defense was basically to sit back and double Roger and make Matt nickel and dime them. Those plays were there but he got anxious and kept waiting for the big plays to open up. He needed to take whr the defense gave him, but more importantly we needed to hold onto the damned ball and stop putting ourselves in ridiculous down and distances with penalties.
I love dino babers and I won't be waxing poetic about the clawson era (god knows he couldn't beat these guys either), but this game definitely exposed the coaching flaws dino has. Didn't hyoe the rivalry as a special game, undisciplined penalties and ball security, and for whatever reason didn't realize it was a 6:00 kick.
So effing pissed at that result. I'll still go to Detroit but honestly don't even care anymore. Beating ut means far more to me than the mac title. Hope like hell we get another shot at them.
