I wouldn't. Toledo is a pesky, ugly rash. But, if we are going to create false choices, I'd rather deal with this rash than give up any of the other things this football team has accomplished. I'd rather have beaten Maryland and Purdue this year. We play for championships. Toledo hasn't played for one since John Kerry was running for president. I'd rather be us.Falconwriter wrote:Let's just hope our AD can find that guy to break this curse and get things turned around. I enjoy winning a lot of games, but I'd trade all those wins over Big Ten schools to beat slUT multiple years in a row.

Really tired of seeing people say this. Of course this isn't true. If this was true, why were Bowling Green players allegedly (and it looked to me from television like Ronnie Moore was one of them) getting mouthy in the early moments of the game?FalconTurf wrote:I get the impression that the team does not see this as a special game or rivalry game like the fans.
Of course the Falcons want to beat Toledo. The idea that this team didn't is silly beyond words.

So what if a couple of our guys did their best Hanson brothers impersonation by trying to start a pre-game brawl. Big deal. Unless they put that extra effort into playing the game, I could care less.Schadenfreude wrote:Really tired of seeing people say this. Of course this isn't true. Funny thing about all that trash talking BG was doing before the game...I saw it and cringed. What in God's name has BG got to talk trash about in this series in recent years?Schadenfreude wrote:Really tired of seeing people say this. Of course this isn't true. That's right -- NOTHING.
Keep your mouths shut and go out there and kick butt. Honestly, a team reflects its head coach; and we all know Babers is a lot like those guys who were talking trash last night. He's all about talking...but so far, not so much about backing it up. If he wins a MAC title this year, I'll cut him some slack; if he doesn't, then he's just another mouthy coach whose teams can't cash the checks his big mouth writes.

No, we don't all know this. I disagree. Dino Babers is not a trash talker.Falconwriter wrote:we all know Babers is a lot like those guys who were talking trash last night. He's all about talking...

Some fans are never going to give Babers a fair shake, and that's too bad. He's a good coach. We are lucky to have him.

Multiple threads, same conversation, but I cannot understand this failure to appreciate what we have. I got news for folks wanting Dino gone we will be VERY hard pressed to improve upon him. I don't even see where this trash talker crap comes from? Because he smiles and jokes a bit at press conferences? Because he coaches a flashy brand of football that young kids relish playing in, even though it's a complete 180* from what old school folks wanna play?
I don't get it, I just don't get it...
Doesn't really make me happy that I feel we have a bunch of people that have been sitting back for our 7 wins in a row (most by blowouts) waiting for them to slip so they could jump back on here with "I told you Dino sucked" crap.

Re: BG-UT game thread
I saw a classy coach last night, he called a timeout late in the game to talk to his team and I can only assume have them look at the big picture and accept losing with similar class. His team still has a ton to play for and the players need to be reminded of that.Falconwriter wrote:Funny thing about all that trash talking BG was doing before the game...I saw it and cringed. I understand last year Dino said some things to rub people the wrong way, but he's been much more in control this season and he's been a better coach. He brought in a DC who had a resume of success and he's done wonders with the defense this season. If the offense executes last night, we're singing a different tune because the defense was lights out in the second half and gave the team a chance to win.
If you're frustrated, cool. But direct it at the players who made way too many mistakes in an important game. Dino doesn't play the game.

It doesn't seem that mysterious.hammb wrote:I don't get it, I just don't get it...
I agree with JP. That seemed like a classy move by Coach Babers to call the time out and talk to the team when it was clear the game was over.

No....it isn't all that mysterious.
And that really sucks
And that really sucks
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: BG-UT game thread
Recently, I played golf with a guy who went to Auburn and works at Alabama. When we were talking about football, I told him I was a BG grad and season ticket holder. First thing he said was....you guys have the best coach in the state. I agreed with him. I'm with hammb. I firmly believe this way of playing and this type of system is football of the future and the best way to play.
1 turnover filled game doesn't change that.
Enjoy it. If he can get a gig like Miami....he will have them playing for national titles 2-3 years.

It's all what we've been predicting for a couple weeks. They are just waiting for that bad game to say "see"!hammb wrote:Schadenfreude wrote:No, we don't all know this. I disagree. It's not like BG lost to a cellar dwellar. Toledo is 9-1 and really 10-1 if not for the weather. BG played their worst game of the year against a good opponent. I'm not really that surprised by the result. Disappointed? I most definitely am but there have been far worse losses here in the last decade.

Yep, there's been WAYYYYY more activity on here after this loss than the last four wins combined. Lots of negative posts from people who hardly comment when things are going well and the team is winning. I wish I could say it's funny but it's more sad than anything and as you said, predictable.kdog27 wrote:It's all what we've been predicting for a couple weeks. I'm going to enjoy the remaining two games this team has with Dino at the helm because I don't expect him to be around for the bowl game. Still a lot to play for.
