Re: Coaching Carousel
Can we just enjoy this season please?
Re: Coaching Carousel
If I had to guess - Memphis, Temple, Houston, BG, Toledo, & NIU are all added to the list shortly after conference title games. Memphis and Houston going public with their offers to Fuentes and Herman was just to save face with their fans. 3 million a year is pocket change for SEC and Pac12 programs.
I don't think Fleck is all that attractive as a candidate. To regress from a 8-4 regular season to likely 6-6 isn't the progress I would be selling to a fan base. But, with so many openings, ADs will likely be down to their 3rd, 4th or 5th options for jobs.
Interesting to see what people think of Harsin at this point also. Took another guys team to a bowl at Arkansas State, took Peterson's Boise team to a Fiesta Bowl win, and is now struggling in year 2.

Can't we enjoy this season and discuss the future of BG's football program and others around the country? What is hurt by doing that?Globetrotter wrote:Can we just enjoy this season please?

I think Globe was being facetious as he's been criticized by others when he's posted a look ahead roster wise on here before.98_BG_GRAD wrote:Can't we enjoy this season and discuss the future of BG's football program and others around the country? Re: Coaching Carousel
Somebody got on him about a thread that discussed the possibility of Lewis declaring for the draft....I think what irritated the person...people?...was the fact that he posted it right after a win. Being a large infant with an inability to let things slide...he references this horrible personal attack. </sarcasm> whenever the opportunity arises.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Re: Coaching Carousel
Are there more vacancies around the country than usual this year, or is this about average?
Re: Coaching Carousel
Yes. Lots of open positions. I think it is not an oddity but a reflection of the game right now and I believe we will see similar amounts of openings every year from here on. Administrators want wins now, not last season.Critical Thinker wrote:Are there more vacancies around the country than usual this year, or is this about average?

Not disagreeing, but, a lot of the openings aren't impatient ADs.
Va Tech (Retirement)
USC (Health)
S. Carolina (Retirement)
Missouri (Health)
UCF (Retirement)
Rutgers (Misconduct)
Illinois (Misconduct)
I would be surprised if we see many more firings, unless it is an elite job like LSU or Georgia. Going to be a lot of schools looking for another coach in 3 years because the guy they hired was their 4th choice

Re: Coaching Carousel
Rumors were flying yesterday that Les Miles may be bought out at LSU if enough donors step up to the plate, talk about a boneheaded mistake if they actually go through with that.Falcon137 wrote:This many in season openings is unheard of.MarkL wrote:Yes. Ohio born. Michigan man. 62 years old. If he's fired maybe he'll be turned off by power hungry boosters and the pressure of P5 football. Should Dino leave he'd look good in Orange and Brown.....jpfalcon09 wrote:Rumors were flying yesterday that Les Miles may be bought out at LSU if enough donors step up to the plate, talk about a boneheaded mistake if they actually go through with that.Falcon137 wrote:This many in season openings is unheard of.MarkL wrote:Yes. Re: Coaching Carousel
Good list, Globe. I had forgotten about the G5 guys.
To put in perspective, there were 14 total coaching changes last year. Wisconsin, Pitt, and Oregon State were all directly affected by Nebraska hiring Mike Riley.
There are currently 13 openings (Minnesota is filled). Realistically you are looking at, at least 20 new coaches. Depending on who gets hired, it could be 30+. Buckle up.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I'd gladly bring in Les Miles if our position became vacant. Talk about making headlines!Falcon137 wrote:Ohio born. Michigan man. 62 years old.
