All SAs have a VERY demanding schedule. It's hard enough for them to study and make it to all of their own required activities, yet alone, be available to fully support the others. Somewhere, they have to draw the line in order to make that 3.0 or better.

I think that's quite a damning statement based on limited knowledge of one event.
In regards to the football players at basketball games it holds a lot of merit. The football guys will show up to a LOT of games to make an appearance. Oftentimes Brandon is there with them, especially during recruiting season. However, they very rarely stick around for the entire game, usually leaving after whatever appearance they're making is finished.

I knew quite a few student athletes when I was in school. They all worked their butts off to get to class & functions for their sport. However, I don't think most of them would argue that what they did was any more difficult than your typical student who is working 30+ hours a week along with taking a full class schedule, and also may want to join in any extracurricular activities.
