Re: Babers NOT to UCF
Just heard this on XM. It is about time Scott Frost gets a head coaching job. He'll be fantastic.

Re: Babers NOT to UCF
Wow. Wow.
Many of you saw the clip from yesterday's news conference where Babers said: "I have lost jobs where I told them that I will play in the MAC championship game."
I was wondering about that last night. Did he mean Iowa State?
Maybe the job he lost was Central Florida.
He's a good man, and we are lucky to have him.

I still doubt we get to hold onto him much longer, but I hope we do. People have been bitching since the moment he walked in the door, but he's the best coach we've had here since Urban, IMO, and he has accomplished more than Urb did.
Re: Babers NOT to UCF
I am willing to admit when I'm wrong . . . Coach Babers, my apologies to you. Thank you for seeing this through to Friday.
Come Sat AM, all bets are off, there's still a lot of attractive jobs out there, but as I told Brian . . . if you win in the Shoe vs a DEPLETED MASS exodus of Buckeyes . . . Then you call your own shot next year.
Sometimes, it pays off to bet on yourself!

Dino Babers may be the most honest coach to ever stand in front of a podium.

I am also man enough to admit when I am wrong about a guy. Hats off to Coach Babers. I think us as fans have become so jaded when talking about coaches leaving that when someone says that they aren't leaving we scoff because of the precedent.
I have never been too big of a Babers' fan with regards to his coaching strategies and on the field decisions sometimes, but the man is a stand up guy with integrity and I am glad that we have a coach that backs up what he says on and off the field.
Here's to you, Coach. #BeatNIU #WinTheMAC #RollAlong

Re: Babers NOT to UCF
I don't know...the only other jobs that would consider him would be Virginia and Syracuse, IMO. Every other P5 school is going to want to have a coach with experience at that level because the stakes are so high now. I would not be shocked if he lost the UCF job because of the MACC, but Scott Frost was a much better candidate than Dino was anyways so who knows. Nice blunder for those who reported this was a done deal as well, I'd fire someone who being this reckless about their journalistic integrity.hammb wrote:Definitely. Glad we have a guy who is honest and doesn't BS the media or his players. If he does end up leaving, we'll at least know he coached the MACC with his heart 100% vested and that's all I can ask for.

Dino is a man of integrity.
BGSU may not hold him for long but he is focused on the MAC championship, which is what he is being paid to do.
I have to think this will give BGSU a boost Friday night.

Re: Babers NOT to UCF
Wow...I am stunned. I, too, was skeptical because 98% of coaches out there do exactly what Urban and Campbell did. I am sorry Coach Babers...I was wrong.

Option is dead on here...I felt another year or two and he could name his next gig.

Re: Babers NOT to UCF
Question for you all. Because I honestly can't seem to come up with an answer. If a non-bowl bound team, such as UCF were to reach an agreement with Dino (verbally), why would they care if he coached 1 more week through the MACC?
Is it because their afraid that he might back out of his agreement, say because something "better" comes along.
Is it for recruiting purposes? I thought that this was one of those quiet times.
I understand those reasons, but that 1 week doesnt seem like enough time to make a difference.

Re: Babers NOT to UCF
He was brutally honest in that press conference. He flat out told the truth about UCF and other job offers. Then was brutally honest that all bets are off Saturday morning. If he has an offer Saturday or Sunday, it's fine with me. It's nice to have a coach be that honest.

Re: Babers NOT to UCF
I don't believe there was ever an agreement, someone decided to throw something at the wall and hope it stuck. Frost had been mentioned heavily for the Syracuse job and him taking this job came as a surprise to many.CBD2032 wrote:Question for you all. Because I honestly can't seem to come up with an answer. As I mentioned in an earlier thread, I think Babers' best bets are now Syracuse and Virginia and who knows if he'll be interested in those gigs. Those programs certainly have a limited ceiling to them and I'd put UCF ahead of them both in terms of likelihood of success.
