Bowl Projections
We're about a month away from a majority of the MAC bowls, so I figured I would group all the projections here...
Jerry Palm - Potato Bowl vs. Colorado St.
Mark Schlabach - GoDaddy Bowl vs. Appalachian St.
Brett McMurphy - Bahamas Bowl vs. Marshall
SBNation - Potato Bowl vs. Boise St.
CampusInsiders - San Diego Poinsettia Bowl vs. Boise St.

Re: Bowl Projections
I would be surprised if the MAC sends either division winner to Idaho.
I think Dave Hackenberg makes as much sense as anyone with these projections:

He sees Toledo playing in San Diego, Bowling Green in Mobile, and Northern Illinois in Nassau.

Re: Bowl Projections
I like ESPN's projections the best, because, they are the ones picking the matchups anyway. If ESPN tells the Poinsettia Bowl, we want BG in San Diego, they are going to be in San Diego. If they say, we want them in Boise, they are going to Boise.
There is no difference between 1,200 UT fans and 900 BG fans in San Diego. ESPN will pick the matchup they want to see.

Re: Bowl Projections
Reports are it will be Middle Tennessee who the MAC faces in the Bahamas Bowl. That wipes out Hustle Belt's prediction which is the same as McMurphy's

Re: Bowl Projections
Given the Toledo loss, this could open things up. I could see the San Diego game choosing Bowling Green given Toledo's lackluster finish and BG's track record in nonconference play. Falcons would give the Mountain West quite a game.Schadenfreude wrote:I think Dave Hackenberg makes as much sense as anyone with these projections:

I also wonder if people are misreading he situation assuming a team like Central Michigan would play in the Detroit game. I'm not sure how good a game the Chips would give a team like Nebraska. BG on the other hand?
(Or Toledo, I suppose.)

Re: Bowl Projections
I have to think that the MAC Champion will get the best bowl slot. NIU has a proven track record and BG will be the conference's only ten win team.

Re: Bowl Projections
If any MAC team loses their coach before bowl selection, I would imagine that would be a MAJ OR factor in where they might go............see Campbell to ISU or Missouri. I can see The scuds in Boise!

Re: Bowl Projections
If Bowling Green wins in Detroit I would predict:
-- Bowling Green to San Diego. They will represent the conference well against the Mountain West and this would be a desirable trip for the team.
-- Toledo to Detroit. They would sell lots of seats and they potentially could give the Big Ten a game.
-- Ohio or Western Michigan to Mobile or Boca Raton. Both of these teams would play well.
-- Northern Illinois to Nassau. This team is a shell of the team that played Ohio State so tough. This is still a desirable trip for the players, befitting a division winner.
-- Central Michigan to Montgomery.
-- Arkon to Boise.
This is all guessing and speculation, of course. But I think it would avoid repeat trips and give the conference a shot at some wins (except in Boise).

It seems to me that if the MAC has a chance to put Bowling Green against a better-known opponent in Detroit or San Diego, that's what the conference will do.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:Both ESPN projections this week has BG playing in Mobile. Mobile is a fun time. It's a good bowl game. But if Toledo is in Detroit playing Minnesota or in San Diego playing Boise State and the Falcons are in Mobile, I'll be disappointed. I think the Falcons deserve the shot to take down another brand name opponent.

Arky St is a decent team but Ga Southern would be a tougher opponent with their time consuming running game and we have not been very good at stopping good running teams. However, given the GoDaddy bowl is at a later date we might have sufficient time to prepare. I believe the rules say we would not have any more official practice time but the players & coaches can watch more film etc... w/o violating those rules.
But yes, if BG wins the MACC, I'd hope we'd get the 'premier' bowl available for the MAC. We're also a decent draw with a prolific offense to sell so that should help.

Go Daddy is no longer at a later date like it has been, it is now December 23Siborg wrote:Schadenfreude wrote:It seems to me that if the MAC has a chance to put Bowling Green against a better-known opponent in Detroit or San Diego, that's what the conference will do.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:Both ESPN projections this week has BG playing in Mobile.
