Re: Go Daddy Bowl it is.....
Right... the "Camellia Bowl" just screams credibility. It's the fourth or fifth cousin twice removed from the Grand Daddy of them all. At least Go Daddy has commercials... albeit incredibly stupid ones.... during the Super Bowl and the game itself has some history. People know what the sponsor does and they've seen the game. It isn't some ESPN concoction from the laboratory. In Bristol, CT
At least we're not heading to Idaho to play Utah State.

Re: Go Daddy Bowl it is.....
Should be a good game. Focus on stopping that option, let Matt draw up plays in the dirt and get after it.
But count me in the group that was hoping for better. I get the business of bowls, I get the tie-ins and it's good to be wanted, even if it's by a bowl committee that is matching us with the third place Sun Belt team. I thought for sure UT would end up in the Poinsettia, cashing in without a MACC game appearance. Hopefully NIU can lay it all out there and represent, but man, I'd have loved for this BG team to get a shot at Boise State in a new-to-us bowl.
It's nothing against Mobile, necessarily, everyone here who has been to one or both GMAC bowls (including the one that was never played as far as I remember...) really enjoyed the experience. Someday, I hope to make a non-Detroit BG bowl trip and I'd consider Mobile. But when circumstances arise (namely, too many bowl games to fill with average teams) and a higher-profile bowl game comes around, the MAC should put their champion out there for consideration, no matter what a bowl contract calls for.
Fans are allowed to overlook teams. I have no doubt this team, with seniors leading the way, will go out and get after a W, no matter who or where they play. Roll Along!

To just further illustrate how dumb / broken the bowl system is...
Conference mates, Nevada and Colorado State are playing each other, in a bowl that will not be shown on TV.

Re: Go Daddy Bowl it is.....
I miss the good ol' days when everyone would complain about not getting a bowl bid. Now everyone complains about what bowl BG goes to. Oh, the irony of it all.

Re: Go Daddy Bowl it is.....
Yeah that is the real problem.....way to many bowls. The MAC, Sun Belt, MWC, and CUSA should really only have 2 maybe 3 bowl tie ins.....Akron should not be going to a bowl....Big 5 conferences should should get 4 or 5 tie ins.... 6-6 or 7-5 shouldn't be good enough for post season play.

As a Georgia Southern fan I am just glad that my team is able to go to a bowl game this year.

Agreed. Ga Southern is a solid team, don't underestimate their running attack. But the MAC Champs should go to San Diego, Boca Raton or the Bahamas.Burnt Orange wrote:BG the Champions of the Mid American Conference goes to Go Daddy Bowl in Mobile? I was hoping for a better bowl. Disappointed.
Can't make the trip to Mobile but I will definitely watch the game. 11-3 would be an excellent mark this yr...and we still have the MAC trophy. Matty J needs 300 yards to hit 5K, Boxx Coppet is 200 yards away from 1K for the season.

FWIW, Yahoo! Sports is ranking this as the 11th best bowl game this year, one spot behind the Toledo/Temple game, so I think some of us are discounting the potential this game has on the fun factor.

Or Detroit. Bowling Green could have the first team in MAC history to go 3-0 against the Big Ten in a season. Instead, the Chippewas will get the shot against Nebraska, and I'm not sure they have the talent.Falconfreak90 wrote:But the MAC Champs should go to San Diego, Boca Raton or the Bahamas.
Re: Go Daddy Bowl it is.....
CMU plays Minnesota not Nebraska. Nebraska plays UCLA. And fwiw, both Nebraska and Minnesota are 5-7 which clearly tells you there are way too many bowls.
Re: Go Daddy Bowl it is.....
40 is to many bowls. I'd be fine with 30-35. I wish the G5 conferences would work together to create better matchups. It's not rocket science.
Highest ranked goes to the access bowl, 2nd & 3rd highest ranked schools go to San Diego, 3rd and 4th go to Mobile.
This year -
BGSU vs Arkansas State - Mobile
WKU vs San Diego State - San Diego
In 2016 -
2nd and 3rd rated G5 schools go to Boca.
4th and 5th rated go to New Orleans .

Re: Go Daddy Bowl it is.....
This would be nice but there are reasons why it would not work. One of the main reasons is the pay out scheadule for all G5 bowls. Let's look at what you have listed for San Diego for this year. San Diego State would sell alot of tickets but would not fill hotel rooms and eat in local restaurants just due to the facts that there fans would for the most part live in the San Diego area and would just drive to the game from there home. Western Kentucky would have few fans at the game just due to the distance and cost to attend the game.Falcon137 wrote:40 is to many bowls. I'd be fine with 30-35. According to folks on Twitter, the FMB will be traveling to Mobile.

Re: Go Daddy Bowl it is.....
Good point. I was somewhat disappointed, but the bowls are decided and that is that. We have one more chance to watch this team play. I was hoping for a different destination and one of the new bowls simply to play in a different one that we haven't before. That has nothing to do with not liking Mobile. I had a nice time there in the past, although that stadium feels sort of out of place. I was hoping our guys got sent to Boca Raton and got to play in FAU's stadium (which is awesome). Be that as it may, my reasoning for not wanting to play GSU is because I feel like they'll cause us fits with that offense and stems more out of respect for them over anything related to who else we could be playing. If given a choice of other opponents that MAC teams are facing that I wish BG was instead, yeah, not gonna lie, I'd rather have played Minnesota or Boise State with this year's BG team. But it's not gonna happen. We're gonna have to come out swinging because BG & GSU are pretty much the best at what each does - which is almost opposite from the other. We lost our bowl in 2013 after winning the MACC. We now have a shot to end our MAC Championship season with a win, which we haven't done since 1992. Re: Go Daddy Bowl it is.....
To put it another way...the bowl that pays the most and picks first chose us...that says a lot.
GA Southern is an up-and-coming program..one we will likely battle for recruits. Play them...beat them and establish a pecking order.
See what I did there? We both have bird mascots...
