Assistant Coaches Contract and Salaries

Does anyone know the proper way of handling assistant coaches when the head coach takes a position at a different school. For example, if Babers had 3 more years on his contract and all his assistants, trainers and strength and conditioning coach also had 3 years on their contracts, if Babers leave, which he did, and he only takes part of his staff, is the University responsible for fulfilling the salaries of the remaining staff for the next 3 years. Obviously the ones that leave will be let out of their contracts and the University isn't responsible for paying them any longer but the holdovers, do they still get paid after the head coach leaves. Are there buyouts for assistant coaches?

To my knowledge, assistant coaches do not get multi-year deals and their contracts are written so that they may be terminated in instances such as these.

Correct, schools offer a pool of money to be divided among the assistant coaches and they are treated essentially as "at-will" employees.

Just another point. Unless you are some big time coordinator you have a one year contract.

Yep...Michigan gave Doug Nussmeir a three year deal for right around 2.5 million total and had to buy him out when they fired Hoke less than a year later.
