HEY A BAND! YOU GOT A BIRTHDAY THIS WEEKEND!

Post by graceful »

So A-Band should consider learning to play "Happy Birthday" for Saturday Nights hockey game... facebook.com tells me that our Hobey Nominated Goalie turns 24 Saturday! (that would be Jordan Sigalet for anyone I lost)... so keep that in mind... or at least sing it to him ;-)

We are. Arrival time is 6pm, faceoff is 7:05. I haven't seen an email reminder like we usually get the week or so before the game, but Jeff is the one that usually sends them and he will not be there. Maybe that's why we haven't heard anything recently.

Beat the dead horses.

I'm glad I could add a chuckle to someone's day :D

That was a good game tonight. We sat in section E right in front of the band and you guys sounded great too.

The game was so much fun! :D (Except for the part where it was absolutely freezing in the Ice Arena...)

We asked Justine to let us try and play Ay-Zig three times in a row... but she said she didn't think she could conduct that fast.

It WAS freezing in the arena and will be tonight too. I think the boiler is broken, so dress warm!!!!!! (Won't be fixed for a few days...)

And the band USED to play AZZ over and over, faster and faster.... I always thought that was a LOT of fun, because it got the crowd clapping faster and faster until it turned into a giant rink wide applause!!!

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

There were two things I really wish we could get revived during hockey games.

1. After the opposing team scores, the drummer starts up with the bass drum to get the crowd clapping, gradually faster and faster. They did it once last night, but it was before a faceoff or something. Keeps the crowd in it after a let down.

2. After we score, right when the band cuts off the fight song, the whole arena used to count together 1...2...3... (up to whatever score we had) and then chanted 'we want more, we want more...' several times.

Maybe the band could try to start these up again and everyone else would catch on. nudge, nudge,

The student section (over the BG Bench's right shoulder) still does the goal cheer. For some reason it doesn't catch on over by the band. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the band is ussally still playing when the crowd does it. I normally sit down infront of the band by the glass, and I have no qualms about starting cheers, but it's really hard to do when the trumpets are blaring out of tune notes in my ear. If things would be timed better...maybe get the students to start the chant after the band plays or get the band to stop while the cheer is going on, I don't know. That's something that should be addressed, cause it's those little things that college sports great. I'll be down in my normal spot tonight, infront of the band, by the glass. I'll do what I can to make sure the place stays rockin!!!

I'll be in the band tonight-- it's not my band, but I figured, what the heck-- and I gladly join in with any chants, as long as they're not too obnoxious. But again... I'm in the front of the band, so I can't really help with starting anything fun like that. Nobody will hear.

Hey now, easy on the trumpets, we don't all play out of tune.

Goofy,

That's awesome that you're one of the outgoing ones that helps start cheers. If I had one suggestion that would get the "counting after our score cheer" back together, it would be to start the count right on the cutoff of the fightsong. That's how it used to be done and everyone caught on. If you and a few others in the section E area could do that 'stubbornly' until everyone else caught on, it might just work  If you do it at the cutoff, the band can help too and then everyone can actually hear the cheer.

BTW, was that you down by the glass last night? If it was, I was sitting with a few of my out of town alumni friends up behind and over one section from you.
