Last year, the Falcons were decimated by injuries, and it was understandable that they lost a lot of tough games.
This season, just looking at the scores, they don't seem to be improving.

I mean, really, a 68-39 loss to Virginia? That's embarrassing.
We seem to be losing everything that Curt Miller built.

New players learning how to play with each other. Virginia is an ACC team so they do have some talent. Today was the infamous education game. There were over 10,000 screaming elementary students at the game. Too many turnovers and didn't shoot well again. Those things are fixable. I think everyone just needs to chill a little bit. If they are playing this way in January or later then I will begin to worry. Remember that BG strives to be playing their best when March comes along. The talent is there. Their record is still 4-4, I didn't expect much more than .500 in the non-conference.

Re: What is wrong with Falcon women's basketball?
When Curt Miller was at the helm, he felt that to be successful, the Falcons needed to make ten three-pointers a game. Well, obviously, that isn't happening this season, except by their opponents. He always stated he would much rather give up "twos" than "threes". Our perimeter defense is not very good this year, but it is very fixable. I don't blame the absence of Erica Donovan for the Falcons performance (or lack thereof) the last couple of games. We have NOT clicked as a unit yet. There is no consistency in our offense. Although we did have a balanced scoring attack the first few games, no one player has continued to put up double digit scoring on a regular basis since then. Tibbs is good enough and big enough to dominate the inside. Lambert and Kirkpatrick are faster than cheetahs and are good shooters as well. I believe this is a very talented team, but the coaching staff needs to find some floor generals to confidently impose their will upon their opposition. If we go three or four years with no All-MAC players on our roster, then I would take a serious look at our coaching philosophies or our recruiting. My statements might seem harsh, but can anyone on this board see any current players on this roster getting conference notoriety on a regular basis. We need to make some changes on both ends of the court, otherwise we're going to keep seeing the same result. Nevertheless, these gals have my full support the rest of the season. GO FALCONS!!!!!

Re: What is wrong with Falcon women's basketball?
I think 8 games into the season is a little early to make decisions as to anyone who might be consistently an all MAC type player. Both Sydney Lambert and Carly Santoro have had their moments. Erica Donovan when healthy is definitely all MAC caliber. Do we need a go to player? Yes we do, but I think it could be anyone of several players. A lot depends on how the opposing team is playing us. If we shoot the ball consistently well, we will win a lot games. Different players have stepped up at different times and that is a good thing. Everyone needs to remember that it takes time for leaders to come to the forefront. Players like Ali, Kate, Liz and Lauren don't come along all the time. Recruiting has been fine. Some are just taking longer to develop. Our dominance forced the rest of the MAC to get better. We will have to compete hard to accomplish our goals. I think by the end of the season, we will be in the hunt for a top 4 place in the MAC and get the bye into the quarterfinals of the MAC Tournament.

I echo your sentiments on Lambert and Santoro....I think they have a world of talent that fits our system well but they need time. What is up with Puk? I think she has the talent to be at that level, but she hasn't developed much at all.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Haley was hurt most of last year but played anyway. Her shins hurt a lot when she was playing. This year I think she is healthy but hasn't played the minutes to really show the talent she has. We have 5 wings for 2 positions. Whoever is playing the best at the time will get the most minutes. From what I hear all the players are okay with that. Maybe someone will rise to the top but I guess this is a good problem to have.Flipper wrote:I echo your sentiments on Lambert and Santoro....I think they have a world of talent that fits our system well but they need time. I'm sorry to hear that Donovan's gone, but I think this team will figure it out before all is said and done. I agree with what was said earlier about players like Achter, Honegger, etc., not coming along very often. I think a leader or two will emerge on this year's team, and the remaining players will all settle into their roles, and they will be fine. Not saying we will win the MAC, but I think this team has a good chance to be in the running for hardware when we reach February and March.

A problem, possibly. Erica never really looked like the Erica of old the entire season. I was at UNCW for the tournament over Thanksgiving and Erica never really looked "right". I don't know what it was but her game was way off. She scored 1 point in 2 games and fouled out in the Jacksonville game. It didn't look like her heart was in basketball anymore. She made a decision to what was best for her. BG will move on and so will she.factman wrote:Donovan is GONE! That is a BIG problem.
